1995 RRC question-removing front cross member

I put a new front drive shaft on my RRC with a 3" lift and have only about 1/4" of clearance on the cross member. I know others have done this and had the same issue. What are the issues with just removing the cross member and not replacing it? Is it better to replace it? Thanks a lot in advance.

Why don't you get one fabbed up that lets the shaft have plenty of clearance. Then you wouldn't have to worry about the structural integrity of your truck.

Thanks, thats definitely one of the options im at looking at. The other is notching the x-member and welding some metal in the notch. I thought if it doesnt hurt to remove it, that would be easiest.

I wouldn't remove it without building a replacement. Rover frame rails are thin metal and I would want as much structural rigidity as possible.

I'm not sure how the frame of the RRC and DII differ but I, along with many other DII owners, have removed the front crossmember for this reason with absolutely no issues. Can't speak for the RRC however

I have read this, thats why I considered just scrapping it. Any RRC owners out there that have removed it? Thanks everyone for your responses!

Mine has been removed...I dont notice any difference, but I have not been offroad with it since I removed it. Primarily, I am concerned about flex. But....I am no engineer! So I will be replacing it with one that provides the required clearance....I figure it was there for a pretty good reason in the first place :)
