1997 montero swap options?

My engine is over 220k miles now and I've been thinking about swapping it lately. I read somewhere that the 1997 Montero has unique wiring which makes it better for different swap options. Is there any truth to this, and if so which engines are fairly direct swaps?
Thanks!

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
It's the injector circuit that is unique on those iirc, the 3.5 SOHC is largely the same up into the mid 2000's. So just use the same injectors on tbe new motor after having them rebuilt.

Talk to Kaliracer, he's got some info on 3.8 MIVEC if you want to up your power. Otherwise look for a low milage 3.5 SOHC from a Montero or a Sport or if you're a little adventurous but don't quite have the budget for the MIVEC you can score a regular 3.8 SOHC from an Endeavor wich are still sorta common. Not sure what will be involved since you have the weird year for ECU and injectors but i'm sure Leo knows. There used to be an injector thread that Shovel started but that was on a different forum that died i think.

Non Mivec 3.8 is a easy swap, you want the later motors that have the better cams. 225hp / 250tq. As for the swap you can just drop it in with the stock injectors as the power level is 10% and it will work fine. We can upgrade the injectors a bit or even swap the ecu. Add headers and exhaust and you might need a adjustable FPR. No biggie either way. As for the injectors they are standard HiZ so they can be upgraded to 8 or 10 hole modern units with plug converters.

Awesome, I would probably just go for the non-mivec for simplicity. Do I need to use the 3.5 intake manifold, sensors, etc or can I use the 3.8 components? When you say use the stock injectors, do you mean the stock 3.8 or the stock 3.5 injectors? Thanks!
