SOLD! Mods please delete

1997 Toyota 4runner, SR5 Auto, 4wd, 180k.

Truck was involved in a front end collision at approximately 15mph and was totaled by insurance. Truck still runs and drives, I drove it approximately 120 miles since the accident with no issues. Damaged components were hood, fenders, grill, bumper, lights etc. I have owned this 4runner for approximately 50k and 4 years and have done extensive modifications and maintenance. Truck has been all over the west coast and rockies, transporting myself and my son safely and reliably. I built it to be a moderately capable, reliable truck that still had decent fuel economy. Within the past 6 months I have done 2 road trips in excess of 2000 miles and the 4runner performed flawlessly.

Engine is leak free and runs very well, had two brand new heads installed in December of last year, approximately 5k on them, these are new heads, with new cams, valves and everything. I have a receipt for $2900 from the truck shop on miramar. When the heads were done the cylinder walls showed minimal ridge and factory cross hatching was still visible. Fresh timing components, water pump, plugs, wires, all belts and tensioner pulleys. I rebuilt a factory Toyota starter and installed that as well. I averaged a consistent 17mpg combined. Engine is clean with no leaks.

Trans and t-case are both in great shape with fresh fluids. I have mounted an external spin on trans filter and cooler to ensure a healthy transmission.

I swapped front and rear axles for 4.30 geared units from a 98 limited, along with the factory e locking rear end, which has an e locker guard from sky manufacturing and has been wired in with a 12 volt guy kit. Rear axle has fresh bearings, seals, and brakes. New seals installed in front axle at time of installation, both axles cleaned and painted at time of installation. Approximately 150k on the axles. Front end has fresh Toyota lower ball joints, updated steering rack guide and fresh brakes.

5 factory Toyota steel wheels, with 265/75/16 goodyear wrangler duratrac's all in good shape with no plugs or odd wear, they have been rotated religiously and kept properly inflated. Showing approximately 10/32nds of tread remaining on all 5 tires.

Suspension consists of tundra TRD front springs (blue/yellow combo) and adjustable height bilstein 5100's. Rear has old man emu 890 springs and bilstein 4600 shocks from a tundra application. Rear lower control arms are 2x2.250 wall square tube with derlin sliders on the bottom, they utilize factory bushings and both ends and are very strong.

I built and extensive skid plate system that covers from the radiator to the t-case. All skid plates can be removed in about 15 minutes (total), with a 12mm and 9/16 socket, with all bolts accessed from the bottom, you only need one ratchet and two sockets. Skid plates mount utilizing modified factory cross members and factory mounts, they are constructed of .125 and .190 steel with extensive bracing on the backside, they are very stout while maintaining a reasonable weight. All bolts are recessed so they will not get damaged. I was a fabricator for a while and have built more than a few skids, this system is one of my favorites. Also have DIY4x4 kickout sliders welded to the frame. I built a small, low profile roof rack that mounts to the factory rails and holds a high lift jack quite well.

Front seat have been swapped for seats from a Subaru impreza WRX and are very comfortable and in great shape with no tears. Mounted on custom brackets to bolt to factory 4runner or Tacoma mounts. Driver's seat is height adjustable, and I adapted the Subaru wiring to work with the factory Toyota seat belt indicators. The rest of the interior is in good shape, dash has no cracks or modifications. I built a custom rack that stands vertically off of the passenger rear wheel well to hold a C02 tank and fire extinguisher.

Ideally, I would keep the truck and repair it, but for many reasons that simply not an option right now. I'm hoping to sell the truck as a whole, I will be removing my battery( I have another to replace it) aux fuse box/wiring, cb, radio, scan gauge, interior LED's, c02 tank, and fire extinguisher. I have included a link with some pictures, but it would be best to see the truck in person. I can also take more pictures if needed. Email through craigslist is your best bet for getting in touch with me. I'm looking for $3200 out of the complete package. This is how I break down the value:

Wheels and tires: $500
Axles: $500
Suspension and control arms $400
Skid plates: $500
Roof and C02 Tank Rack: $100
Engine: $700
Seats: $200
Trans/T-case: $300

Buy the whole package and everything else is free!

Such a bummer. Good luck with all the sales.

Edit: What year are the Subaru WRX from? Would you say they are more comfortable than the stock seats?

Jason,

Thanks for the kind words, I'm hoping to sell the truck whole, but can part it out within reason.

The seats are from an 03 WRX and were worlds better than my stock SR5 seats.

Thanks! I just wish someone would see the value in them, they took some time to build and are probably my favorite part of the truck.

Sorry about the accident that sucks. Wish I had room and time to pick it up as it sits. Doesn't look like it needs to much work.
If you decide to do a semi or full part out I would be interested in the seats and skid plates...
Thanks, John

I see the value but I already made a decent set of skids. Are you interested in parting ways with the 12v guy wire harness?

Pirate McGee,

Thanks for the kind words! The sport was a favorite truck of mine, that thing simply worked.

QuadsBC,

For now I would prefer to keep it with the e locker and axles, if that changes I can let you know.

Please do! Wish I could buy the entire truck and ship it out east but I don't have a spot to store and work on it.

Vt logger, I paid 975 to ship my 4Runner from San franscisco ca to Springfield ma. Really worth it for a rust free truck!

Yep mine keeps on trucking along. It's really an awesome vehicle.....especially for how ridiculously cheap they are now.

I'm at 133k miles now, only parts replaced on it since new: cam seals, shocks, front wheel bearings, front brake pads, 1 timing belt, spark plugs (+ tube seals). Still pulls over 20mpg on the highway. Last tank around town plus offroading = 18mpg.

Bump.

Had some interested parties, but nothing too serious. Open to offers and parting the truck out.
