Why So Expensive...

This is a wildland fire engine; they rent out to the USFS or BLM or state forestry departments for something like $1,000 per day. To build up a new one with all that equipment (pump, booster tank, hose, fittings, tools and toolboxes, radios) you're looking at over $200,000...

Fire Season Rentals...

Given the fact that fire season in the western U.S. is getting longer and hotter and busier, someone could make a ton of money with a rig like this. Better still: a tractor-semitrailer setup with all stainless showers. You take it to fire camp so the crews have hot showers when they get off the line; I think the current federal contracts are paying around $2,000 a day for these...

As an old fire truck it is high. If it can pay for itself in a few months it is cheap.
