Well did not know what I did all these years was called overlanding but found some helpful walkthroughs on mods here and great resource for ideas too. Thought Id share mine just in case. Hes not the usual overlander build but way more room than my original 1984 4runner.

1999 F250 4x4 auto

Current mechanical mods: Wicked wheel 2 turbo wheel, larger transmission cooler, procomp level kit, 285/75r16 bfg at ko2 tires, mismatched truck canopy, sleeping platform, 6in memory foam mattress, thetford cassette toilet, carpet kit for truck bed/canopy, helps a ton with moisture, noise, and insulation, window screens, 12k smitybuilt x20 winch, lots of mechanical repairs for reliability. I.E. rebuilt/resealed fuel bowl and fuel lines, replaced high pressure oil pump lines, resealed oil cooler, added NOCO onboard waterproof 4amp battery charger/maintainer, dipstick adapter from strictly diesel, brakes, and all fluids/filters.

Shes big and heavy but way cheaper than a truck camper and more room then my 84 4runner and just serves more purposes. Tows the skidsteer and side by side, bigger cabroom for road trips between sites, little more modern, better power, but just bigger and heavy lol.

Eventually im going to get 1 or 2 deep cycle battery's, a 100w renogy solar panel, charge controller, inverter to watch a move on the laptop. Always just charged a deep cycle battery with a generator but summer is here in North Idaho and will reduce noise and save space. The wife is starting to get interested but she is still very new to camping but shes getting used to it. The dog is always ready whether its hiking, fishing, riding shotgun hes up for it all though lol.

Has anyone used something similar to help keep a truck canopy cooler during hot days/nights? its a dual 92m fan with a programmable thermostat. only 9 deciblas loud and .09 input amps. coolerguys-dual-92mm-fan-cooling-kit-with-programmable-thermal-controller

Just curious what others have done to help keep a truck canopy cooler? My blood runs hot so even in the 50-60s im wearing shorts lol and the warmer temps are coming to my area. I could order larger fans and a programmable thermostats and build a custom plate that mounts inside vs actually replacing one of the truck cap windows. but any feedback would be appreciated.

Are you sticking that in the window? You could also install one or two of these RV fans on the roof:
I am hoping to not cut holes in the roof for now at least. I am examining options for solar panel/gear storage so maybe in the future though. The brand of my truck canopy (Innovation) as almost no info as its not made anymore, so im not sure if its the re-enforced type roof yet and I would like to keep it looking stealthy. I suppose a fan in the window isn't as stealthy haha. But hoping to avoid cutting holes for now. I have looked at the fantastic but I was very surprised at the thermostatically controlled ones being almost $500 vs just some computer fans that are super quiet and have less than 1amp draw.

Do appreciate the thought and link though.

@justinooo9 what condition was your oil cooler in when you resealed it (clogged up or damaged in any way)?

Did you just do o-rings?

How long did it take?

Regardless of their claims, those fantastic fans are OBNOXIOUSLY loud!

If you buy one, make sure you get it on amazon with a return policy!

I'll be switching to Maxx Air fans on my next build for sure

@BajaSurfRig I got a oil cooler kit from riffraff diesel performance. I did the metal gasket on the oil filter adapter and the o rings on the oil cooler but I left the front metal gasket on. An oil cooler should never clog on a 7.3l. if it does you have BIG ISSUES. I will say the oil cooler job is fairly easy, just messy. Go on youtube and look up dieseltechron he passed away unfortunately but has a great video on the process. I just copied him. It took me three hours but I had a tab break when prying the cooler pieces apart and cleaned stuff. It wasn't worth the extra time in the end though lol. Bring A 5 gal bucket for the coolant, bring some extra oil. I cannot for the life of me remember how much oil I had to add but it shouldn't be much at all.

Maybe paint the roof of the cap white to absorb less heat, or maybe some kind of reflective paint?

So I have a bright red cap on a a green truck. As counter intuitive as it sounds the canopy will be painted black but I do plan on painting the top portion silver it actually makes a difference. first read about it from a guy in san fransisco modding an old 89 f250 diesel and it made a decent difference in cab heat with the silver paint and no one would ever see the canopy roof 99% anytime.

Really not much of an update. Working from home and haven't been able to travel yet. Did spring maintenance check. Inspected fluids, tire pressure, crawled under to check for anything odd and checked log book for any upcoming maintenance. added couple psi to the rears and shes hooked up to the tender

Changed air, fuel, and oil filter, oil, and tire rotation. Winter is nearly here so many travel plans are on hold till next year. I did secure two scepter MFCs and replaced the flange/gasket and they have been excellent for diesel fuel. I found two more on Ebay that will be used for gasoline. I liked using the scepters so much I got rid of some of the cheaper no name 1/2 gal jerry cans I used for equipment. They swelled, the safety spouts malfunction/break alot. I'll admit carrying two 5 gal jugs of diesel is heavy but they just work super well and are well worth the cost. I found all four of mine for under $80 a piece and just got new Viton gaskets and rinsed with water/vinegar few times and air dried.

Winch is also working nicely but the cradle is cheaper metal that im going to just cut up and replace with material at the shop and use it as a template. Only used it twice and both times not for me thankfully.

Canopy remains the same only I ditched the raised sleeping platform. I now have a 4 corner storage system and a hitch cargo carrier. Not ideal but have really settled into just taking less and less stuff and doing just as well. One day I may upgrade and use my 84 4runner but its just so much smaller sleeping space wise and the truck just rides a bit rougher and forces me to enjoy a slower pace.
