2.5 rear door handle fix

The handle to my rear door is cracked. I know I pic is worth a thousand words but I'll try and paint a word picture. The part that cracked is the inside handle you squeeze directly behind the MITSUBISHI letterss on the black, rear door/ license plate holder (where the license plate lights are). Its a white plastic piece. Can I simply remove the whole black housing ( the part i mentioned above.. that includes the door handle and license plate holder) and bolt a new one in? Is this a simple fix? Or does it become complicanted with all the actuators with the electric doors? I already have the inside door panel off.

Should be simple enough. Granted "simple" is relative, but if you do a bit of work on your truck yourself, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. A new latch assembly will do it, or you can fabricate a replacement for the broken handle.

I don't have the 2.5, but the Gen 1. Not the same, but I doubt the process will be much different. You'll need to remove the interior door panel to gain acces to the back of the assembly. Take note, or better yet take photos of how it's all put together, particularly the links to the actuators as well as any electrical connectors (license plate light). Unplug the connectors, carefully undo the links then the nuts. Match up the new latch assembly then secure evrything back. While the interior panel is out, spray some lube down into the base of the rear gate (rust countermeasure), pop the panel back in and Robert's your father's brother!
