#2 conversion of FJ60 with 6BT5.9 cummins engine. The progress will be at www.cumminscruiser.com very soon.

My last conversion has been an everyday driver for about 10 years.

Nice off road rig and gets almost 25mpg.

Landcruiser running gear.

How much does your (current) cruiser weigh? 25mpg is pretty good out of the 5.9. I assume (being a 10 year old swap) that you are using the mechanical pump?

What a great motor....how about some details of cumminscruiser #1?

:lurk:

I dont know how much it weighs, but its heaver than stock, the motor is a stock '87 6BT5.9. As soon as I can get my budd off his rear I'll post more pictures.

I did have to replace the FJ60 transfercase about a month ago, It finally wore out. I replaced it with a FJ62 transfercase.

O MAN!!!!!!! I will be following this build with alot of intrest. Lately I've been thinking that I may bite the bullet and buy an old FJ60 in preperation for a swap of this nature. I was actualy thinking of doing the 4BT swap, but a 6BT would just be that much better in terms of load capacity. As much as I love my gen1 Runner and will always have it for a trail rig, I think a Diesel 60 would be about perfect for long trips and with the 6bt it could pull a trailer and still get up and over the mountain passes in the places I love to travel. Is your forst truck a manual? I see you said the T-case just went, but how is the rest of the drivetrain holding up?

I can't wait to see the build mate. Get'r goin eh!!!!

Cheers

The 6BTs weight approximately 1300 lbs. The stock 2F is a very heavy engine at about 800 lbs. 6BT powered Land Cruisers are great as they are very powerful. My opinion is it would be a great candidate for a lightly wheeled or stockish or lightly lifted vehicle versus a 4 cyl Cummins (regardless of their drawbacks) as their weights are more comparable to the stock Land Cruiser weights and power ratings.

So do you think it would sit right with a set of OME heavies? It is 500 pounds heavier. Do you happen to know the weight of the 4BT?

4BT is about 800-900 lbs. OME heavies would be a good base but you would need to add at least 1-2 leafs to the pack in addition.

I have some pics of a 60 from Texas with a 6BT in it. It was supposedly a fairly difficult install and they had to redo the grill to get some of the intercooler bits to fit, as it is also a long engine at nearly 1 liter per cyl.

Again it would be a sweet swap for the right application. But some aspects will have to be accounted for otherwise things will break, mostly, and again it will weigh a lot.
