Fritz Kreis and Thomas Fuerst just finished a 'round the world drive in a MINI. Starting in Germany, the pair drove east across Europe and Russia to Vladivostok, shipped down to Japan, then sent their MINI by air from Seoul to San Francisco to join the "MINI takes the States" tour. The two have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MINIgoesallaround From the photos, it looks like they got stuck in mud a couple of times, wore out two tires, and cracked their oil pan in eastern Russia. So maybe a sump guard would be a good accessory if you're planning to take your MINI to Russia.
Sadly, their MINI was broken into in San Francisco, the only act of vandalism they experienced during the trip.
