2000 disco shakes

My son drive a 2000 discovery and all of a sudden it has started shake/ I haven't see it but I think maybe it could be wheel balance. I am worried it could be something else. He is in flagstaff and I am in san diego. Any one know what it could? How about a reliable land rover mechanic in the Flagstaff area?

most likely a wheel weight, driveshaft U jt, or panhard rod- all simple to check, could be many other things if not these- wheel bearings, bad CV, etc. Try Keith at Rover Tracks for a contact in Flagstaff- he's in Denver but might know of someone.

Can you find out how it is shaking?
Is the whole vehicle shaking?
Is the steering wheel shaking or steady with the rest of the vehicle shaking?
Does he hear or feel any specific vibrations?
Is the vehicle modified in any way?

Three things to check right away before driving the vehicle too far:
1- Check all the lugnuts on all four wheels to ensure they are tight.
2- Check the u-joints on either end of the front drive shaft. Look for shiney raw metal or loose metal in the joint.
3- Check both end of the rear drive shaft paying special attention to the u-joint on the front of the rear shaft and to the rubber rotoflex on the back end of the shaft. If the rotoflex is bad it will either have cracks in the rubber or it will have strands of fiber/wire all over it.

Also, for both drive shafts, have him grab each end of each one and try to shake it, they should not move. Then have him check that all of the drive shaft flange bolts are tight. No tools required for any of this checking, maybe a flashlight to really get a good look into the u-joints.

The reason to check before going too far is the wheel could fall off or a bad driveshaft could cause a lot of damage if it comes loose and spins around down there bouncing between the ground and the vehicle.

If none of those three things then get the wheels balanced.

If that's not it then check the motor mounts.

Let us know how it turns out.
