I am, with a heavy heart, selling my 2000 Land Rover Discovery Discovery. It is a very unique vehicle.
Custom Features:
-Isuzu 3.9 4BD1T turbo diesel.
-NV3500 5-speed transmission.
-Rover LT230 transfer case with center locking differential.
-Schwitzer S200 extended tip turbo.
-3 inch full exhaust.
-Brand New Clutch, Re-built transmission, bearings, etc. About 50 miles on the transmission.
-Dual core all aluminum radiator running G5 coolant.
-Tom Woods shafts F&R CV's on both with u-joint conversion rear.
-Greg Davis rear bumper and front custom front bumpers, 2'' receiver.
-12K Mile Marker electric winch, really cool mount, basically invisible, very clean look.
-RTE lift springs.
-D1 rear spring perches.
-DBA rotors and Axis Ultimates pads.
-Electrically heated windshield.
-Differential protection.
-Dual Die Hard Batteries.
-Manually controlled glow plugs.
The interior is in excellent condition, with one exception, see "needs work." It is stock with the exception of boost and egt gauges, and additional shifters. All gauges work, fuel, tach, temp, low oil, etc. No warning lights on, all in working order. The seats are tan leather, power and heated. The carpet, dash and headliners are in great condition. Air conditioning works great and is displayed in Celsius, not sure why.
Currently mounted on 5 (full size spare) BFG Mud Terrains, size 255-85-16
. No rubbing, vibrating etc. The tires look new with tons of deep tread left.
Full synthetic oil change on 2/1/2011
Fuel filter replaced 2/1/2011
The entire underside and bumpers are currently sprayed in Lanox MX4 heavy duty anti corrosion lubricant. The body has no rust, the chassis has light rust and that is overstating it.
Things that need work:
-The shifter boots and knobs are not up to the standard of the rest of the vehicle. This is all cosmetic and easily fixed. See pictures.
-There is one missing dummy switch on the console.
-The PCV valve currently vents to atmosphere, meaning if you really work the engine, it will eject a mist of oil from the valve cover that outlets near the transfer case. We are talking maybe 1 cup every 2,000 miles. This set-up can be re-plumbed so that it vents to the crank case or a reservoir.
-Two of the alloy wheels are missing the cosmetic center caps
-The winch hook and shackles currently on the truck are not heavy duty enough to handle a 12k winch
-There is a 6 disc changer under the passenger seat. I believe that it is missing the the cd carousel. I have never tried to use it.
The vehicle is fully operational and this conversion was done to perfection. It looks better than factory. The truck itself also looks awesome. The tires, lift, color, bumpers, all make it one of the best looking vehicles I have ever seen.
For the last year the truck has sat in climate controlled underground parking. This is because of an issue getting title. I now have a clean, clear, and transferable title. I am selling the truck for two reasons:
1) I could not legally drive it for a year, so I bought a second vehicle
2) I was going to put a vegetable oil system in the truck. I have converted three diesels to run on vegetable oil. However, I no longer have access to the facility I used to process and store oil. I planned on taking this truck up the Dalton Highway, fueled by vegetable oil.
If you do want to know more about what it would take to set this truck up for running vegetable oil, ask away. I put over 100,000 miles on my Jetta on free vegetable oil, pretty cool.
When this truck was previously for sale an extensive message board thread was created here and has great detail:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=763708
There are slight differences from what is presented here, mainly the winch hook and shackles, the shifters and the shifter surround.
Please note that there is contact information in that thread which is not mine, please respond to me.
This truck drives like a diesel truck with MT tires. It is probably louder and the drive train more primitive that what you currently have. When you shift the transmission gives you feedback and the clutch is not a sponge. That being said, for what the truck is, it has really nice manners. The interior is leather, power everything, heat, ac, heated seats, 3 dome lights, cd player, cassette plater, auto dimming rear view with compass, all the modern amenities. I found it to be quieter and smoother than I anticipated. With the center diff unlocked, it turns pretty tightly and can be parked in a tight space easily enough. It gets AMAZING MPGs! I averaged above 25 MPG going 70-75 mph from LA to Minneapolis, in the winter. I am not promising this mileage to anyone, but it is really cool how far you will go on a tank.
The truck does well in the cold. Today, 2/2/2011 was the first really cold start I have ever done, it was about -5f, the truck was parked outside at the service shop overnight, and I activated the glow plugs for 10 seconds and it started easy. That was its first night out in the cold in over a year. It also produces great heat for the cab, highway speeds at -5f and my feet were warm! No radiator block of any kind
This thing is extremely capable off road. I have never had it on mud or really flexed the coil spring suspension, but it goes through deep snow like a tractor, with the center diff open. With the custom bumpers the approach and departure angles are substantial, the transfer case is manually selectable, 4hi, 4low, no 2wd. If you lock the center diff it drives like a stout 4x4, with the center diff open it feels more like and all wheel drive and has good road manners.
I am in Minneapolis, MN. I will help with arranging shipping, or picking you up at the Minneapolis - Saint Paul Airport, MSP.
I have many pictures, http://s1096.photobucket.com/albums/g334/brp154/#!cpZZ2QQtppZZ20 and I am all ears for questions. Please only contact me if you are seriously interested.
As for price, I am open to offers.
I bought it for $19k and it has a new transmission, so you can see about what I have into it. To one person it may not be worth anywhere near this, and to another a lot more. Don't hesitate to make me an offer.
I would like to get it sold quickly, as I now own two vehicles and that was not the plan.
It is being sold as is. I will let it be inspected, and it was just gone over, as I wanted to be ready for sale. The only thing that was found
was a fuel leak at the priming bulb. Two new hose clamps and we are back in business.
Please do your own research regarding emissions laws, or the lack thereof, in your state. I know diesel conversions are a trick to get titled in California, in Minnesota they couldn't care less. I'm not going to give a refund because it won't pass inspection in your state.
If you buy this you will have fun! It is so cool, you feel like a kid with his Tonka Truck. Open the two sunroofs, take it up a mountain
logging road, its just a real fun time. I wish I could keep it.
Thanks for looking, and fire away with questions.
