2000 TJ Electrical starting issue

My son's 2000 TJ has an intermittent starting problem. Push in clutch, turn key, sometime starts right up, sometimes nothing... I mean NOTHING.... then turn key off, let clutch up do it all again... sometimes start sometimes you go through this a dozen times... then finally starts.

I am thinking either the ignition switch or the switch on the clutch pedal. Does anyone have information or a write up on changing these out or any other ideas I have not considered?

Thanks,

John

Most likely the Clutch safety switch. There is a way to bypass it, but I'm not sure on the procedure.

The newer vehicles have a switch where the clutch has to be pushed in in order for the starter to engage, the symptoms sound like it is going bad or has a loose connection.

You should be able to pull fuse number 20 (bottom left corner of the fuse panel behind the glove box) and bypass the clutch safety. Look in the owners manual, it has a blurb in there somewhere about it. I would suspect the ignition switch first, they are weak.
