my brother has an 2002 jeep grand cherokee with a 4.7 that recently started to jerk forward and stall when put into drive, it started doing this about 2hours after he jump started a friend and when they hooked up the cables they arked them, truck was running strong befor and has 160 000kms. i'm thinking computer but the guy at the napa countier said possibly TQ

i will be doing all the work and it dosn't make sense to me that the tranny would die out of no were so i'm looking for ideas starting with cheapest (don't want to changer tranny if don't half to)

EDIT: some times it won't stall but will drive like it is stuck in passing gear very bogging and won't shift gears

Did it throw on the check engine light(CEL)? Arcing is a function of electric current and can affect sensors and the vehicle's computer, the torque converter(TC) is mechanical as far as I can recall and should not be affected by arcing. Jerking when put into gear is typically related to a sensor issue, the TPS is tied to throttle and the MAP sensor measures manifold pressure, and the transmission sensors/solenoid affect shifting but do not usually cause jerking and stalling from a stop. The vehicle speed sensor can throw a CEL code but still be drivable. I'm trying to think of more to help but have only owned ZJ's. Have you thoroughly googled it yet? And unless the guy at the parts counter is old and has an ASE patch on his uniform, most of them are clueless idiots.
