GLWS. My old Montero had the same sticky rear door. The culprit was a $2 spring just FYI.
Thanks for the heads up! Im not sure if yours did this but mine when you pull the handle it doesn't want to go back in, it locks and unlocks just fine. Is that what was messed up on yours?

Yup, Exactly the same thing. Occasionally it works, occasionally it doesn't, right? After a while the handle will stop going back at all and no amount of manually returning it will get the door to open. I'd pull the panel now and replace or lubricate that spring before its stuck shut for good. It's much easier to get the back door panel off when you can open the door. Ask me how I know...

And for anyone wondering, these Monteros make an excellent overland platform.

This is ours somewhere in El Salvador:

I might be but would need to sell my sport first.

Have you tried this? http://mitsubishiforum.com/forum/mitsubishi-montero-montero-sport-14/rv-meter-33429/

With the key in the off position- push and hold the DISP button down on the RV meter
While continuing to hold the DISP button down, turn the ingition switch to the ACC position. Keep holding the DISP button until you hear a beep tone which will last for about 10 seconds
The RV meter should instruct you to turn the key to the ON position. This will initiate the "systems-connection" test
After the test is completed (approximately 8-10 seconds), you can continue following the prompts to reset the compass.
