2003 TRD 4x4 Taco Wheel Bearings

All of my wheel bearings are making noise and obviously need a change at 150K+ miles. The 2001-2004 Tacos have sealed bearings instead of the cone and roller type that some of us may be more familiar with. The sealed bearings need to be pressed in and out. In the front this requires removal of the steering knuckle (everything between the upper and lower A arms) and taking them to a shop (if you don't have a press with SIGNIFICANT pressure). I have heard that the front bearings require up to a 12 ton press to remove and sound like a grenade when they break loose. In extreme cases the knuckle can actually crack, which can cost upwards of $400.00 for a replacement.
The rears are typical Toyota design, but can be can be particularly difficult on the 2001-2004 models because of the pressed in wheel speed gear that the speed sensor reads for ABS operation. I hear that most mechanics cut these sensors out and replace them.
Does anyone have any experience, advice or pictures to offer before I tackle this job on my own (prefer to do it myself)? I have the 2003 FSM that is quite detailed, but it's always nice to chat with a fellow 'wrencher' for pointers before starting.

I replaced the right front wheel bearing on my 2000 Taco this spring and getting the knucle of is pretty easy. That being said I had the local Toyota dealership remove and replace the actual bearings. Dont be shocked if your bill is 450.00 a side. I went with factory parts due to the simole fact that the factory bearings lasted 218,000 miles. While I was their I replaced the right CV joint as it has to come out any way. Remember the first step to a successful project is to crack an adult bevrage first!:wings:
