Having a hard time locating a thermostat for my montero 2005 LTD 3.8. I can't seem to find any information on the 3.8 engine online. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Dealer or Aisin 180F is p.n. 1305A191 Rockauto sells the Aisin (OEM supplier for this component) There is also a 192F Thermostat, the PN escapes me thou.

edit: 1305A239 is the 192F unit

First off, the 3.8 is basically the same as the 3.5, which is basically the same as the 3.0. The accessory plate (or front plate) varies between engines, but the general layout is the same for all of them.

The thermostat is behind this elbow fitting and held on with 3 bolts. Here is a photo with the radiator removed so you can more clearly see the location.

You followed me, so now we're both lost
Go to the FSM link in my signature and download the 2003 and 2006 manuals. Those should have all the info you need in the future.

When refilling after changing the thermostat, be sure to use the 2 bleeder screws above it on the pipes. Remove both screws. Fill the radiator until it bleeds from the first hole, replace the screw and continue until it gets to the second hole. That should prevent any air bubbles in the system if done on flat ground.

Also I recommend only using the OEM or Aisin model thermostat. I had installed an Autozone/Advance? parts store one that had a much weaker design and spring compared to my original. I replaced it after a few weeks with a new Mitsubishi one and it has been working for the last few years.
