First post, long time lurker. You guys inspire me to get out; I'm actually kicking around a walkabout to Utah/colorado/wyoming/go west young man next summer for my 30th anniversary of being born.
Long story short, I had an 04 Tacoma TRD OR DC that I loved, and I totaled it back in the winter. Stupid. I decided I liked that truck so much, I'd go out and get another tacoma. Couldn't find a 1st gen anywhere with 4x4 near me that wasn't for a mint (rightfully so, the insurance payout on a 10 year old truck worked out to me renting it for about 500 bucks a year), so I ended up getting a brand new 2014 TRD Sport DCSB 4x4. I love the truck, but absolutely HATE the seats. I don't have a bad back, but after about 20 minutes in the truck, my lower back is killing me. I loved the seats in my wife's old volvo S40 (same seats as the s60...more on that in a second) but absolutely hated the car for being a total maintenance suck.
I've searched around between here, tacoma world, TTORA, etc, and have found plenty of guys who've swapped volvo/saab/aftermarket seats into 1st gens, but no one's done it (and subsequently posted about it on the interwebs) with a 2005 or later that I can tell. I've got a line on some 2001 volvo S60 power seats, and if I can get them measured and make sure they'll physically fit in the turck, my plan is to go to a welder nearby, have him cut off the rail feet, fab up some brackets and bolt them in. My issue is they are power seats sans airbag, and I'm not sure if the 2014s are all wired up for power seats. I know the limiteds have the option of seat heaters, and there is a wiring harness attached to the bottom of my seats for the airbag, seat belt sensor, etc, but I'm looking for advice on the actual wiring up of power seats and hopefully a way to ground out the airbag sensor so I don't constantly have the airbag light staring me in the face.
Anyone have a write up or link to a write up of somebody who's actually done a power seat swap into a 2005+ tacoma?
Thanks, keep doing whatchur doin with the forum here...this one is pretty awesome.
