2005+ Tacoma rear leafs fit a 2001-2004?

My 01 Tacoma has a saggy rear. The leafs are not looking too good. I was thinking of going with a full OME set up, but decided to hold off on lifting it for a bit. But I would like to level out the back end, though. At the dealership, it's $70 for the pair of AAL.

But on a local classifieds, I found a set of 2006 rear leafs for pretty cheap. Is there a way to make them fit? Are they longer? Would I have to relocate the mounts? If I do, I'd probably just go ahead with the factory AAL, but if they can be made to fit somehow, I'd rather do that. Or is there a way to take a couple of leafs from the 06 and put them on mine, which will be like an AAL?

Thanks for any input.

Interesting..... I would think that it would be rather difficult to pull off, given that the newer Tacomas went away from the standard shackle hanger design, to some sort of reversed spring support. Not sure about size differences, but I could certainly put a tape measure on mine tonight to see.

Have you checked around locally with any Toyota clubs, TTORA, etc.? Given the number of folks that modify their Tacomas, someone might have a set of newer 1st gen Tacoma leafs sitting in their garage. Just a thought....

Thanks, Jacket. Yeah, I have looked around, and found a few that were outside of my state. With shipping, it just doesn't make it worthwhile. Haven't found any locally, though. I didn't know about the reversed spring support. The guy doesn't live too far, so maybe I'll just go and try to test fit them. But at this point, it seems like the OEM AAL is the best way to go.

I can tell you they wont work/swap without a WHOLE lot of work, but I have AAL's from a 05+ pack on my 98 springs right now. In fact, I just today (literally) threw out a set of 05+ and a set of 98 springs (broken leaf)to the scrap metal guys. The 05+ pack had the 3 leaf AAL's from deaver on them, and I stole two of the AAL's and put them on my stock 98 pack. It worked fantastic, and they were free since my buddy went with a Deaver 10 pack on his 05.

Okay, AAL it is. Thanks to both of you.

BTW, stump, what kind of condition were your stock leafs in? If I look under my truck, mine are just straight.

I've got a few different pairs of 1st Gen Taco springs (post 98)... I know of at least a pair off of an 04' and an 02'. Don't know if it will necessarily fix your sag. Whats on the back of your truck now? Bumper? Shell? Toolbox? Lots of gear? There are a couple of add-a-leaf varieties out there, truthfully I don't have much experience with any of them.

I used to have a shell, but that is off now. I usually don't carry much gear or load. Are the 02 and 04 springs in good shape? How much would you sell them for?

Both were still holding weight pretty well... but its hard to say what they will do on your truck. $50/pair

My original pair of stock springs were negatively arched, and had one broken leaf. I have a LOT of weight on the back of my truck. I put on a lightly used stock set with the two AAl's form the 05 and never had a problem.

Both the old gen and new gen rear leafs are 57" eye to eye with the vehicle weight on them, the old gen spring hanger to center pin measurement is 24" from the center of the spring eye to the center pin of the leaf spring. If i remember right the new gens hanger to center pin measurement is a bit longer, maybe 27", there will be an 06 at my place in a few hours and i'll take some measurements. If it works out, you should still try and pick up an after market pair. I had good luck with Allpro's 7 leaf long travel tacoma replacement springs for the old gen tacomas, if you carry a ton of weight all the time than you need some 10 leaf deavers or alcans.

Do you know about how many miles were put on before they were taken off? Would they need to be rearched before putting on the AAL? Do you sell AAL? The dealership (LHM) wanted $70/pr. I'd rather just get it all done at your place, though. Thanks.

Yeah, I don't think I will be carrying 1/4 of the weight that you had on your rig. BTW, sorry to hear about your truck. Hope the XJ works out for you.

I will only have a shell on during the winter months. Usually, they'll just carry skis and bikes and such during the year. Few times, it will carry camping gear, but shouldn't be that heavy at all. How did the 7-leaf Allpro's ride compared to stock? I'm not really looking for a lift, but maybe 1-2" to accomodate for the shell.
