Hi everybody, i currently have a selft build camper on a 2007 dodge ram 1500, it´s a single cab truck with 4x4 and the 4,7 liter engine.
I´m selling the camper and turning the truck in to a motorhome for my father.
He want it to be a hard side small shell camper, the truck won´t see to much off road the 4x4 is just to be on the safe side, for roads on bad shape or with sand or mud on it.
I´ve been reading about frames getting cracked on mitsu fuso fg when someone puts a rigid flat bed or camper on them.
Building a 3 pivot support for a camper that it´s going to be that small (2,3 to 2,5 meters of flor length) seems to me like to much trouble specially if it does not need the extra articulation.
So the question is: is it safe to build a rigid base and just bolt it to the frame as the truck box was bolted? will the frame crack if it sees to much dirt roads? is there an alternative to de 3 pivot that could give some flexibility to the frame without been so heavy and complicated?
Thanks for the help.
