2007 Jeep WK Grand Cherokee Diesel 7'200 pound tow rating
Location: Nevada, Las Vegas
Price: $11'000
Mileage: 121'000 miles - 194'000 kilometers
To anybody looking for a Pan-American travel vehicle: Just an early notification as we are looking to sell this Jeep Grand Cherokee by the end of October 2019, but can sell earlier if somebody needs a vehicle to start an earlier trip. This build was put together with the plan to tour the Americas for 2-3 years towing an off-road trailer, but due to life, work, a house fire etc, plans have changed. A complete build sheet, and build blog is available to interested buyers. The vehicle is located in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Vehicle: 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo CRD WK
Quadra Drive 2. QD2 is ELSD (Electronic Limited Slip Differentials)
Engine is Mercedes Benz OM642 Common Rail Diesel Engine. These engines are common in Sprinters, Jeep's and many Chrysler and Mercedes platforms so parts are relatively easy to find. This is one of the reasons this specific vehicle was chosen as a Pan-American Travel Vehicle.
Tow rating of 7'200 pounds is another.
Modifications: Modifications were done with the mindset of vehicle longevity, durability and self reliance.
Engine:
Green Diesel Engineering Tune: Comes with flash tuner and ability to choose or change between Eco tune with 241 hp, and better fuel economy, and Hot Tune with 255 hp and 454 ft/lbs of torque which can come in handy when driving at higher altitude. It takes approximately 30 seconds to change the tune.
Air Intake: JIR Silicone intake tube (Spring 2019)
Crankcase Ventilation valve: Replaced with Meredes Benz part (Spring 2019)
CCV Catch Can: Billet Technology
Monitoring:
Permanent mechanical Turbo boost gauge in A-pillar pod
Transmission temp in A-pillar pod
Ultragauge programmable gauge cluster: http://ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/ultragauge_wired.htm
OEM digital readouts in US or Metric
Suspension: Old Man Emu Heavy Duty Suspension is well suited to this vehicle and gives it a modest 2.5" lift to increase clearance and ability to handle rough roads easily.

Aux Battery with CTEK Dual DC-DC charger: Charges from alternator, and solar panels if needed.
Warn Zeon Platinum 10'000 pound winch and front winch bumper. This is a ~$2'000 USD 10'000 pound winch that will get this vehicle, and other vehicles out of difficult predicaments if needed. This winch has wifi remote for safe winching. Has only had one heavy pull to test winch and bumper. Comes with shackles, straps etc.
Maintenance:
This vehicle has been meticulously maintained with OEM or better fluids in differentials, transmission, power steering, hydraulic cooling fan system transfer case, engine oil, engine coolant, brake system flush. Have records and dates for most all work. Current owner is retired maintenance consultant, and regarded any chance to replace a part with a superior or new part as a way to minimize likelihood of breakdown on the road. This vehicle has done very little off-road in its life and is on its third owner who has had it for five years. The vehicle has been on a few overland trips in Canada and USA covering 10-12'000 kms per trip on 98% paved roads.
All glow plugs have recently been tested and touched with anti-seize to ensure no issues in case one goes while travelling. #6 was just replaced with Mercedes Benz OEM part.
New Glow Plug Control Module done recently with improved Mercedes Benz part. Original was a known point of failure.
I won't say vehicle is ready to leave tomorrow for Tierra del fuego or Anchorage, because everybody's journey requires their own specific customization based on what they need. That being said, mechanically this vehicle is ready for any such trip today. Contact me for specific info if you are interested in such a vehicle, or if you are looking at a similar build of your own and have questions. This vehicle would be perfectly paired to a rooftop tent, or Australian Patriot Camper, https://www.patriotcampers.com.au/ or a South African Conqueror. https://conqueror.co.za/ etc.
