2007 LR3 SE with HD package (full size spare, locking rear diff), cold weather package (heated seats, front and rear windscreen in glass elements), ARB winch bar, Warn Winch, dual batteries, 161k miles,.
I’ll likely regret posting this for sale, but it’s time to move on (need more room, and tow capacity… full size crew cab pickup here we come).
Purchased in 2007 from Land Rover Hanover, I set it up as my dream LR3… ARB Bull bar (with Warn Winch and synthetic line), Traxide dual battery setup (approved by LR Austrailia, included the correct driver’s side battery hold down that the LR dealers here refused to admit existed…), cold weather package (heated seats (front and rear), windscreen, etc…). I went with the SE for the 18” rims (not many 19” off road tires at that time). No navigation or center fridge, but otherwise pretty much all the available options as I recall. The auxiliary battery not only powers the winch, but also has leads for a radio (ham radio installed now does not go with the vehicle; dual NMO mounts and all leads will stay though in case you want to install something else), and most importantly two 12v outlets to the rear (one “cigarette” style outlet, the other European outlet we used for a 12v National Luna Freezer Fridge (which we’re keeping, but I highly recommend).). I also have a cell phone connector for the center console (it has Bluetooth anyway, but this was a phone-specific system). I’d planned on setting it up to use the built in external cell phone antenna but never got around to it. Also has built in Sirius radio as I recall, but I’ve not subscribed since our cross country trip in ’08.
The good:
All the accessories (I also have LR dog or gear guard; I’ll sell that separately if someone wants it, otherwise goes with the vehicle); an ARB Bull bar, winch, dog guard, and dual battery kit will run you over $4,000, not including installation.
*I know folks complain about LR quality control, but I’ve not had any real problems outside of the “wear items” you expect (brakes, tires, control arm bushings, U joints) and age / time related component replacement.
*As recommended by a friend at Atlantic British, when I got to 140k and the alternator went, I had everything else replaced at the same time (tensioners, AC compressor, water pump, etc…, and the radiator and hoses ended up being replaced as well) as I’d heard that they all go between 140-170k. So that’s all taken care of.
*Air pump and air tank have been replaced. Air suspension works as it should.
*New tires (Cooper Discoverer AT3; a nice compromise tire it seems (my wife called the Nitto Terra Grapplers we put on in '08 "clown feet") and brakes (including pads, calipers, and rotors) in the past year.
*Air conditioning condenser replaced recently
*Same owner since 2007, huge pile of records of oil changes (always synthetic), repairs, etc….
The not so good:
*There may or may not be an issue with the AC... replaced a few lines, and then the condenser, needed to be charged again. Assumed it was the evaporator, but at this point after that 2nd recharge it is still working 2 months later in the midst of our heat wave.
*One small rust hole in the rear passengers side door wheel well area. Does not enter the passenger compartment (not visible unless the door is open). I looked in to having it repaired, and it is certainly possible, but I'm leaving it to the next owner to decide if it is actually worth it or not. I suspect I should have pulled the moldings off occasionally and hosed it off; the rest of the body has held up great (though the ARB bumper, which was painted to match, has a few spots showing).
*One small tear in the side of the driver’s seat side (bottom cushion)
*Ever since the radiator was replaced the “Low coolant level” appears randomly. I’m assuming it is a ground or sensor, as the coolant level is fine.
If you plan on heavy off-road use I’d do two things:
*Buy the Johnson Rods. I always wanted to, but never did
*Replace or properly resplice the hook on the synthetic winch line. I did something stupid pulling the tractor out and the line got cut by a metal edge on a brush hog (the tractor isn’t small…). I tied it up quick and it has worked fine, but isn’t correct. I used the winch today to help replace a 4 bay 2m antenna array on a 60' tower. Works fine (of course, the antenna was light, but the last heavy use this spring the winch was fine too; my point here is it gets used).
In cleaning it up a bit to take pictures I noted a crack in the roof glass; it will be replaced shortly (next week or two in theory... but it's been a month since I started the process) with LR or OEM glass; one less thing to worry about. I'll be posting up more images up once the glass is repaired.
I’m not going to claim it is perfect (it is a well loved, cared for, kept in heated garage and washed throughout the winter, but this IS upstate NY, and it has 161,xxx on it).
We’ve had a ton of fun with the LR3 over the past 11 years; an epic 5 week trip camping all over the western US in 2008 (roof top tents are great!), lots of camping and such on Maine lumber roads each year, and hauling our growing family around. Hoping to find someone who will treat it well as we did and have lots of new adventures. I won’t be rover-less though… I still have a ’68 SIIA and a ’65 “for parts” that my kids are trying to get me to restore….
If you've made it this far you're probably wondering what I'm asking for it. To be honest I'm not sure what to ask - I've seen prices all over the map here and elsewhere. A friend who knows the vehicle and Rovers said start at $8,500; given the AC and wheel well I think $7,500 sounds good given all the accessories, upgrades, and current mechanical status (brakes, tires, etc...), but I'm certainly open to reasonable offers, especially from fellow Rover enthusiasts (or want to be enthusiasts!). I'm posting this now as it appears a few folks may be looking for an LR3 with the HD package. If you are interested let me know and we'll go from there. I'm in the Lake George / Saratoga Springs area of upstate NY.
