2008 Chevy 3500 Converted Bus (In Alaska)

I’m selling my converted school bus, a 2008 Chevy 3500 with currently 156,000 miles on a 4.8L v8 engine. She’s got single rear wheels which means she handles much better off road, the kumho All-terrain tires help with that too! The 4.8L gasoline engine is one of the smaller sizes GM offered with this platform but it gets excellent mpg (11.5-15mph as apposed to the 6.0l which gets 13mpg at best) I even got 21 one time. And I haven’t had any problems getting up mountain passes in the Rockies and in the sierras. I even took her up Tioga pass In Yosemite! She went slow but she made it no problems. I have the services records since she was brand new and she was serviced every 2 months from 2008-2018. I bought the bus on January 4th 2018 and embarked on the almost 7 month process of turning her into the ultimate adventure vehicle. This is what was done:

Electrical:
  • there is a Renogy 200w (2 Panels) premium solar kit (includes charge controller) with a 200ah batter and 1000 watt inverter.
  • 12 volt wiring which powers the fridge, 3 outlets and the Maxxair deluxe fan with plenty on juice left to add other things!

Appliances:
  • dometic CFX50 12v refidgerator (900 dollar unit)
  • Maxxair fan that has the rain cover
  • 2 Goal zero rechargeable lanterns
  • LED (battery powered) lights (it would be easy enough to put in 12v lights tho!)
  • Good sized sink (made out of a stainless steel salad bowl)
  • Hand pump faucet
  • 2 7 gallon fresh water tanks
  • 7 gallon grey water tank
  • Coleman 2 burner propane stove
  • Mr. Buddy propane heater
  • Propane tank with long hose so you can use both the stove and heater

Features:
  • Comfortable couch with custom cushions that turns into a table with two chairs
  • Large kitchen area with 4 drawers and 4 different sections for storage, etc.
  • Good sized closet
  • “Garage” area underneath raised bed platform that you can access from both the back door and the inside
  • Platform for full sized mattress
  • Black out, thermal curtains on all the windows
  • Rear hitch receiver and Yakima 2 bike rack
  • Aftermarket LED headlights
  • Comes with tire chains
  • Comes with collapsible ladder to access roof
  • All wood on the inside is either oak, birch or cedar
  • Hidden storage compartments under couch
  • Laminate flooring
  • ridged foam and spray foam insulation on walls. Fiberglass in celling
  • Full sized spare
  • 2 seat belts on the couch for passengers!
  • Fire/carbon monoxide alarm (not dying is good!)
  • 4 Removable Window Screens
  • Insulated window covers

The body of the bus:
  • made by a Canadian company called Giradin (now blue bird) but the body is galvanized metal and fiber glass so it might get a little surface rust but it will never rot!
  • I painted it with a Rust-Oleum Maine paint. It is very tough, UV resistant, salt resistant and over all awesome

Mechanical stuff:
  • when I bought it I had the power steering system replaced, transmission lines replace and all the break pads, calibers, break lines and routers replaced
  • Both the power steering and breaking systems are all done with the heavy duty options of parts and components
  • Brand new ECM (electric control module) in March of 2019
  • New (rebuilt) 4L60E transmission in April of 2019 with 3 year/100,000 mile warranty from fort Bragg transmission
  • New larger radiator cooler for the transmission
  • All new seals for all components of the transmission
  • Pinion seals replaced April 2019
  • I regularly get oil changes and tires rotated.
  • Differential fluid regularly replaced
  • It is also regularly gone through by mechanics to make sure she is is tip top shape
  • Like I said I also have all the service records from since she was brand new. Serviced every 2 months!
  • I’ve put in over $12,000 into the bus mechanically
  • She is bomb proof now! For being over 11 years old she’s a total tank

Misc.
  • all stickers are included! (But not dope patch collection, sorry!)
  • She’s is a tank, I’ve taken her down some serious dirt roads and I’ve only gotten stuck once! With high clearance and all terrain tires the world is your oyster
  • No doubt in my mind the bus will go to 250k miles

The bad?
  • there is some rust on the underside of the vehicle. Exactly what you would expect from a vehicle from up north. Nothing structurally damaging only surface stuff. I’ve taken her to many mechanics and they all say it’s nothing to worry about. Extremely common with vehicle from New England. It would be easy to remove the rust with a wire brush and an angle grinder and undercoat it during a free weekend. Unfortunately I just don’t have the time to do that
  • I painted it myself so it’s not “perfect” but that being said it is REALLY good
  • Occasionally check engine light codes for o2 sensors trip. I’ve taken it to many mechanics over the years and replaced all the parts that could be causing it and everyone says it’s nothing to worry about just a quirk an older vehicle can get

Well that’s all I have for now! If your looking for a very reliable, capable vehicle with a metric crap ton of character that will turn heads and make you friends every where you go look no further! I’m asking 22k, I’m almost 30k into the bus but I’m not trying to make a profit, I just want the next owner to care of her and keep her adventurous life going. My life is just evolving and I need a little bit of a different rig. Please contact me with any questions you might
