200k on a Disco II??

It's kind of funny - I used a bone stock DII front driveshaft on my 3"+ lifted RRC and never had an issue with it, and had zero vibes. I couldn't use a TW shaft because I had larger aftermarket catalytic converters.

It seems impossible anymore to find a good local DS shop that will rebuild your stock shaft with greasable U-Joints and balance it, but that's the route I prefer myself.

Tom will build whatever driveshaft you want, and every one I've bought has been a work of art compared to what I've sourced locally.

Some of those experts were less than pleasant, so I'm not too bummed they're gone.

There's plenty of "non-expert" advice that is equally helpful. Your's for example. Thanks.

Actually, those aren't even the ones I was referring to. ;) There are some "pleasant" experts.

I'm always happy to have experts around, as long as they behave in a manner consistent with the forum's policies. Nobody's been banned in the Rover section (recently), and if we all try to abide by the house rules it will stay that way.

Mostly I post as a guy who just digs Land Rovers, not as a moderator. I can be wrong, and I like having people around who can (and will) correct my mistakes in a mature manner. I get more out of the experience that way, and I hope others do too. As I see it, that's kind of the spirit of Expedition Portal.

head gaskets...

thanks for the input everyone. i'm not familiar with all vehicles, but
i know there are many fords, nissans and toyotas that have gotten over 200k with out changing a head gasket. i still haven't heard from any disco II owners who have gotten 200k with out changing a head gasket. i'm starting to think it's inevitable that i will have to replace the head gaskets. in which case i feel it's better to change it before it blows rather than after it blows and leaves me stranded in the middle of a trail.
