So i have a question/observation regarding millage in your vehicle.
Little bit of background:
I had recently been driving back from a trip from South Dakota to Colorado and filled at a Shell gas station (Usually I fill at the local Loaf and Jug) with 91 octane (usually use 87 octane). So as i am driving along i am watching my scan gauge and my millage is getting better and better as i drive along (which makes sense to me because i would think that with 91 octane i would get better millage than i would with 87). I then get into North Platte, Nebraska and fill up again with 91 octane at a Sinclair station. Interesting thing is that my millage went down once i filled with the Sinclair gas (back to roughly the same as what i was getting with the 87 octane).
So I decided to play around a bit with this once i got back to Colorado and started filling up at different stations around town at different octane levels to see how much it affected my normal daily driving millage (to and from work and weekend fun trips). So far I have found that my truck REALLY likes the Shell 91 octane fuel ... but its only Shell ... I have tried Loaf and Jug as well as Valero gas at 91 octane and i don't get the benefit i do from the Shell gas (have put 2 tanks of each fuel type in to make sure i didn't skew my results).
Long story short I have seen an increase of about 4 mpg (from 16 to 20) on my daily commute. I averaged 21.5 on a round trip to the mountains starting near 1-25 and c-470 up to idaho springs then a bit of off road for a camping trip and back home the same day.
So my question is has anyone else played with or seen a change in millage filling at different places/octane levels?
