I did not want to believe it, but looks like it is true.
Have read a few links at the blue room and Mud, and just ran across one from USA Today.

Info on the Ultimate Trail Team Edition is there too, and in a link below from Toyota Press.

Farewell to an Icon
Chiseled from nearly a half-century tradition of tough off-road performance provided by the legendary FJ40, the original 4Runner, and 4x4 compact pickups, the FJ Cruiser was developed as a basic, capable and affordable off-roader aimed specifically at serious off-roaders looking to push the limits. Hailed by consumers and critics alike, the FJ Cruiser became an instant classic.

The final model year 2014 FJ Cruiser is on sale now. The Trail Teams Ultimate Edition is scheduled to roll into dealerships in February 2014, kicking off a fond farewell to a Toyota original.

With sales of more than 200,000 units sold since 2006, the FJ rides into the sunset leaving lasting memories of one of the most iconic vehicles in Toyota's rich SUV history.

Not super huge on that blue either.
If I had to replace my FJ for some reason down the road, I would do one of two things.

1. Brand new Tacoma four door, and set it up like my FJ now with the roof top tent, and have all the carpet yanked out, and a floor like the FJ.
I like the utilitarian feel of the FJ, and the water proof seats very much, plus the styling.

2. A used BJ70 turbo diesel if I could get my hands on one.

:( I remember reading about these in four wheeler magazine when they were first being talked about and hyped up in 2005/6. Ever since then I have wanted one. I wish I could afford a brand new 2014!

I see this USA Today article is making the rounds as 'breaking news' but wasn't this pretty widely discussed when Toyota announced the axing 6+ months ago?

Yeah, I think it was a done deal when Toyota posted that fleet listing that had every current model with post-MY2014 entries except for the FJC.

It's too bad that they didn't return to Voodoo Blue for this one, which would have been a proper way for this model go out in our market... Unless it was a Sun FusionTT! :coffeedrink:
I had a sneaking suspicion the last Trail Team edition would be blue since they had already done all the other primary colors. Anything else would have been just a variation of some TT color that came before.

I'll admit, I could picture you rocking the ARB Tacoma, maybe with the fridge inside the cab... :ylsmoke: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/104938-ARB-2012-Toyota-Tacoma-Expo-Build

I have that blue on 1964 Fj45 SWB short bed original paint. I am not a fan of that blue either but trying to find a FJ45 SWB in original paint is hard to find as is.But hey now I can get touch up paint :]

Thanks for the link, I missed that one.
I followed their 5th Gen 4Runner buildup.
I should stop by there to check out their Tacoma.
I drove by there about a half hour ago from one job site I am at and back to home base here, but I had to get back here for a quick job before lunch.

I would have to have a cap on the rig though, as everything would get coated with dirt on the FS roads I camp off off, plus not to mention theft.
Yeah, the fridge would go behind the driver, and it would be setup with no seats, all open to hold camping gear, and the bed too for gear with a cap over it, and a frame to hold the Maggiolina roof top tent.

I plan on driving my FJ into the ground though, but if some ********** takes it out totally, then I would have to replace it, and the 4 door Tacoma makes the most sense for me fixed up the right way.

at least that gives options to bring in another burly 4x4 platform. 70 series would be nice.

Dream on. I will gladly dream with you, but it ain't gonna happen at all, let alone with the 70-Series. We're set to have the 4Runner, Land Cruiser, Tacoma, and Tundra (along with the Lexus GX460 & LX570) as our choices of body-on-frame Toyota 4x4s for the foreseeable future in the U.S. market. Actually we're pretty fortunate in that respect considering Nissan doesn't even bring us the current generation Patrol.

I agree. I'm pretty sure you'll see a perpetual motion machine that runs on unicorn tears before you'll see a US-spec 70. ;)

I thought they did, albeit as an Infiniti? The Q56 or whatever it's called? Isnt' that just a gussied up Patrol?

IMO Toyota's got too many irons in the SUV fire anyway. There really is not much of a market for mid-sized body-on-frame SUVs these days, the various unibody crossovers have taken over most of the Soccer Mom market (for that matter, I can't figure out why Toyota offers both the Highlander and the RAV-4 with 3 rows of seats since these vehicles seem to be targeted at the exact same market segment and even look somewhat similar.) If you think about the way they are used, a 4 door pickup fills an SUV niche more than it does a pickup niche so reasonably, those should be counted as SUVs rather than trucks (that is to say, like SUVs they are primarily used by private owners to drive around town or to haul the family on vacation, rather than being used by a business or by a worker to haul his tools and equipment to the job site.)
