2016 4Runner question

We are getting ready to buy my wife a new 4runner. Has anyone had any luck ordering the trail package w/ a 3rd row seat? I guy at the dealer said Toyota won't let you order that configuration, but I figured I'd ask here. We really need the 3rd row, so it not, we will be getting the SR5 Premium.

Nope, really can't be configured that way. Have not heard of anyone finding a way around that on the 4Runner forum, either. Bummer.

Is it not possible to add the third seat to a trail after purchase? Is there something on the body of the trail that won't let a 3rd row seat fit? It would seem that adding the seat to a trail would be easier than adding all of the features of a Trail Ed. To a an SR5 Premium.

Yes, seems that it's possible to add the third row to a Trail after purchase. A few folks on T4R.org have done it. However, I recall that some of the weldnuts are not in the body, and need to be added. This is for things like safety belts and latch anchors for car seats. That's one thing I get uncomfortable about, personally. Also, the entire cargo area plastic needs to be swapped to do it the right way. Additionally, the 2nd row seats don't fold in a way on the 2-row versions that allows easy ingress/egress to the 3rd row.

One positive thing; there was some concern on T4R.org that the side curtain airbags on 2-row models don't cover the 3rd row. From a few crash/rollover pics, I don't believe that to be the case. The side curtain airbags I have seen look to extend all of the way to the back window including on the Trail model.

Ya, I ended up reading that on T4R. We are going to get the SR5 Premium w/ 3rd row seat. It's going to be my wife's vehicle anyways, so our families needs take over my wants..... and I still have my Hundy :sombrero:

And, the SR5 is just as good off pavement as the Trail model for most use. Wise choice!
