I wanted to share some pictures of my new work truck. We don't do typical over-landing like most of y'all...however we are required to respond to remote areas and be totally self-sufficient (at least for a while). This requires us to pack a lot of the same over-landing stuff as true overlanders/4x4-ers.
We cover 900sq miles of rural TX panhandle landscape...with only 4 of us. There are places in the county where our response time is over an hour due to the remote-ness of the locations combined with the poor roads (only a handful of our roads are paved). We usually get do a fair share of 4x4ing while en route to calls.
My new rig is a 2016 Silverado CC 4x4 SSV. We installed cam locker toolboxes & headache racks. Obviously our rigs are equipped with all the law enforcement toys/bells/whistles. Some of the pictures will show my rig attached to a trailer with my sheriff's office ATV parked on it. I am working an enduro motorbike race this weekend so it should be a fun time.
I wrote a grant last year for 3 4x4 ATVs for remote area search/rescue (A LOT of hunters get lost here), anti-poaching patrols, etc. They have been a GOD-SEND when responding to calls in the riverbed of the red river and the more remote parts of the county (where full-sized vehicles dare not trod). Our ATVs are also equipped with the police toys.
My truck is not complete at this point. I have a few more toys I am going to add (but this is not the entire to-do list)
things coming in the near future:
finish my CB install (wiring complete. waiting on ebay for my cb to arrive cobra 18wxstII)
2m/70cm dual band radio install (I have my HAM license)
install my golight
install driving lights (looking at hella 4000s, or maybe off-brand ARB intensity lights combined with a light-bar... I am still doing research).
Driving at night out here is pretty dangerous. We have A LOT of furry creatures which enjoy darting across the highways (large hogs, larger deer, and cattle). Being able to see the bar-ditches as well as the roadways at night is a necessity.
Let me know if you have any questions.
