Anybody overlanded a dually?
I use this truck for my towing my trailers, jeeps and sleds so going to keep the dually but been trying to plan a trip to Prudhoe bay from Calgary, Alberta. Not the most ideal vehicle but trying to get some info on basics needed to make the trip next summer.
So the plan is to throw a pop up camper in the box that I can still close the tailgate, its a 8' box. Looking at the palominos as they are cheap and it wouldn't get used much per year.
- onboard air
- full size spare ( running 35s on aftermarket rims so this is going to be an issue )
- front winch bumper with grill coverage and extra lights
- all my old overlanding and general gear from my jeep ive got covered
So my questions...
extra fuel? truck from factory has 200l ( 48 gal tank ) I can go around 650 km on a tank of fuel with a load on, I think that would be more than enough but open to feedback. Im guessing with a lightweight pop up I could push 800km to a tank. Just wondering about diesel stops along the Dalton highway if I could make it far enough between stops.
Spare tires? This is where it gets tricky, if I blow a rear tire I can just remove it and run a single wheel? A front tire I will have to use my spare from under the truck so ive got that covered. If I ever blow two tires I will be hooped but I am hoping I don't have to worry about that. So with just keeping a full size spare do you guys carry any certain patch kits that can be used in an emergency?
sat phone?
does anybody carry maps anymore? If not im sure google maps would suffice for a trip like this.
Any feedback or places to stop or ideas on if im missing anything is all greatly appreciated.
