2022 Ram 3500 - OEM Battery replacement recommendations

Hello
One of my two OEM batteries has died after three years and five months and 30,000 miles. The dead battery is only producing 71CCA and good battery is producing 770CCA. I evidently need to replace both batteries so the electrical system stays happy. Should I let Ram replace them or choose another aftermarket battery. If I choose aftermarket, is one brand really better than the others. Thanks

I never got more than a couple years from mopar batteries either. I'd replace them with a good, well known AGM of your choice. I went with Duracell AGM Platinum this time around. I believe they were a 4 or 5yr full replacement warranty.

Thanks for the replies guys. I talked with a few friends and one recommended Optima and another recommended Odyssey or the Platinum line at O'reilly Auto Parts. I decided to look at the better AGMs from those brands. The fella i talked to at O'reilly was a mechanic with 45 years experience and sounded like a pro. He said Optima has declined in quality and cut their warranty from 4 to 3 years and that Odyssey has done the same. At this point i was planning to buy the O'reilly Platinum, which includes a four year warranty, but when he tested the battery, it tested OK.

So then I called Ram service manager and asked about the diagnostic he did and their crappy offer to sell me two flooded lead acids for $1000. He said to come back in and they would re-test both. Also, the Ram service techs that I talked to directly contradicted each other about how the batteries were setup and what was wired to what. It appeared that they knew nothing.

The mechanic at O'reilly said he didn't have to disconnect the battery to run the test because the machine zeroed out the battery before running the test. And he also said you don't have to replace both batteries just because one is bad. I don't know if these comments are correct, but maybe it's true that I'd have to replace both if the new one was AGM and the other was flooded.

Let me know what you think, if you have time.

You may consider Interstate as well. I run them in all my vehicles, boat, and side by side. Shortest life out of all those was six years. Usually I get seven or eight. I don't even know what the warranty is because I feel six years or more is better than expected.

My Ram currently has the premium Interstate AGMs. I will also recommend these batteries. See if you are nearby to an Interstate battery distributor location and get a discount and better service at the desk there.

Just a note, Interstate also manufactures the batteries for Costco and you get can some great deals with a decent warranty. They also have Costco specific models that are generally closer to the premium models. Might be an option if you're a member.
