I have been looking to replace the tires on my 3500 Dodge Dully truck and need a good mud tire. I have decided between the Maxis Big Horn and the Goodyear MTR with Kevlar. I can get the Bighorn in the 235/80-17 size that is the factory size or the Goodyear in the 245/75-17. Both are around the same size, but the 245 is a littel smaller very little 31.5 inches compared to 31.8 inches. Which one would you folks go with. I have had really good wear with Bighorns in 285/75-16 and they go well on the road to. A Little help. thanks.

on all of my dually trucks, I have ran a 238/85/16 (235/80/17) and have haf great results. The bighorn's are great tires, and would be my choice. What are your primary uses for the truck? DD, towing, camping, dirt/gravel roads?

I use the truck to tow up to 14000lbs and carry a hydroseeder with it on the flat bed. We all so use it to hall our kayaks and camping supplies. It is used on road 60% of the time and off road gravel, mud etc the rest of the time. Copper has the SST tire in the 235/80-17 that is not quite as rough. It is the same price as the Goodyears in the $225.00 range installed. I have never run copper tires but have heard good things.

Never owned a dually but I understand the fitment/clearance concerns. Another plug of the Bighorns, I really like them.

I think I would prefer the slightly taller/narrower stock size, 235/80R17 over the 245s.

Could you clear/would you consider 255/80R17? I think BFG make the KM2 in that size? But LT235/80R17 will give you the most choices and is probably the best size for the truck.

Good luck, post up with a pic of what you choose.

I think sticking with the original size is best to. It will work best with out gearing changes or rubbing problems. Mud tires are tough to find in this size. I have looked at the 19.5 Ricksons, but it is a lot of money. I hope to order the Big Horns this week I am running on low tread in the back. Got stuck in wet grass this morning on a slope, but was able to use wheel speed to get going.

Well I could not get the BigHorns, they will not have them till the spring production starts. I had to go with some Nitto AT tires that are not mudders but are better than the road tread I had. I will post some pics later. Why do they come up with all these odd ball sizes with no selection of tires out there that are not highway tread. We use our trucks to actually work with and use the 4 wheel drive which means it is slick, step, or deep. Go figure.

Another tire you might want to look into is the Mastercraft Courser C/T. I have used these tires many times with great results. They are on ALOT of farm trucks in my area, wish see ALOT of road time as well as wet and muddy fields and gravel. The mileage is good from them and they do fairly well off the beaten path for what they are.
