235/85/16 on stock taco?

I have a 1996 tacoma auto, 4.56's, that came stock with 31x15's. Does anyone have any experience with the 235/85/16? They'd be 1" narrower and 1" taller. Would they fit with the stock suspension? Thanks, Ian

Hello Ian, I'll assume the truck is a 4WD and say "yes" the tires should fit with the stock suspension. Depending on the health of the springs and shocks, you may or may not experience a slight rub on hard compression, but likely not.

i had an 02 w/265/75r16 which are i belive to be th esame height but a little wider and had no problems. the truck ahd 110k on it when i sold it and lnow problems. have 235/85 on my 08 w/ no lift and love them. cooper stt. highly recommended.

Same here. Had 265/75/R16s on a 2001 Taco with stock suspension. No rubbing for me. I know English sizes so I always convert mine to inches. Then I can tell if the tires will fit my truck. You can run 31X10.50s with no problem, 32X11.50 or 33X10.50 and you will need to lift it.

235/85/16 = 31.7x9.3/16. . . . . . So you should be good.

(Edit) Also I dont mind metric units because they do make more sense, but with tires I want the actual height and width of the tire. Not some sidewall height and other mumbo jumbo. Why cant they tell us the tire size is 78.7cmX26.7cm?

I've been running 235/85 - 16's on my stock '04 for over a year now. I assume the suspension is the same, but not sure. My truck did have 16" tires originally, don't know if the older ones did but I don't see how that could make a difference.

I'm very happy with my 235/85/16's though.

I've also got 235/85's on my stock Tacoma. I really like it a lot. Here is a thread I started on it that might help.

My only complaint (sort of) is that I wish BFG KO's came with a load range D instead of E.

I have 235's on a Frontier. BFG AT's load range E which is enough for a loaded F350.

The ride quality is no different from 30, 31 or 32 tires I had on the truck.

They do look pretty narrow on a 7" rim and needed a little extra effort to seat on the rim.

I had a set of 235's on the truck right after I got it with no lift and then a 3" toytec lift and they were fine. Being a load "D" rating I belive they were pretty rock hard but good tires.

Thanks for the help! I'm still looking at different tires. Any experience with the Dunlop radial rover RT? I do a lot of driving in ice and snow. Take care, Ian

2004 Tacoma Wheel Offset Quesiton

I have a 2004 4x4 tacoma xtra cab TRD. I bought it used and it came with 16x8 Ivan Stewart TRD wheels with 265/70/16's. I want to run a 235/85/16 but can not mount that tire on the 8 inch rim. I found some stock alloy wheels but it lists 2 options for the 2001-2004 tacomas. A 16X7 with 15mm offset and a 16X7 without 15mm offset. I have 3 questions:

#1 What offset was stock on my 2004 tacoma?

#2 Can I fit either offset option without any problems?

#3 If I want to run a 235/85/16 (or possibly a 265/75/16) which offset will rub less without a lift?

Thanks
