255/70 R16

According to my calculations, this is about the same size tire as a 31x10.50R15, only with a 16" wheel. If I were to get a 16" wheel, I would like to have as close to 31" tire as possible, since 245/75 R16 is a little smaller than I would like. Is anybody running this size? What brand, and how is it performing?

I am running this size in a General Grabber AT2. Tires are great. However, this is closer to a 30 inch than a 31. The 245/75/16 is actually a bit taller at closer to 30.5 inch albeit narrower. My next set will either be 245/75/16 or 235/85/16 (32 inch).

I have been running a set of Kumhos in the 255 70X16s for about 20,000 miles on 8 inch Rubicon Moab wheels and they are doinf great but like above they are about a 30.2 inch tire and my next setup will be 265-70s or 265-75s for a little bit more tire heighth

I agree with Scott, LT265/75R16, often referred to as a 32" tire but are usually closer to 31.5 - 31.7 inches, less when loaded. Lots to chose from in this very common size (including many load ranges).

There are a wealth of 275/70r16 tires out there as they were stock on Toyota LandCruisers for years at 31":

275/70r16 = 31.16x10.83r16

And why not a 265/75r16? very common size too though often a small touch above 31"...

Just a bit off-topic.............What are these tires going to be put on? Has the Jeep accident settlement been resolved?.................Back on topic

The Tacoma had 265/70-16 tires stock.

The tires are (or, would be) going on another Jeep Cherokee. Mine had 15" wheels, so the 31x10.50's were fine. But Im looking at a 2001 Cherokee Classic in Redlands California with 16" wheels. It's a fine specimen with 70,000 miles, cruise control, Chrysler 8.25" rear axle, and dark blue. Of course, I will be going back to the Old Man Emu 3" system and mild trimming to accommodate the 31 inch tire...

As far as the settlement goes, pretty much absolutely nothing has been accomplished. I got a lawyer, but my insurance adjuster has been out of her office for the past week and a half. I'm going down to the credit union today to get a loan for this Jeep. I can't see a problem arising, considering the situation. I'm going insane without wheels.

The Tacoma was a nice thought, but I'm familiar with the Cherokee and I think it's a great platform. I'm looking forward to building another one for expedition travel and moderate trails. This time, though, I'm gonna do it right the first time.

Sounds like you found a good one:REExeSquatsHL1: ! Not a dang thing wrong with a nice Cherokee, my Father-in-law has a real nice one, went everywhere the Tacomas went last fall in Moab. Good luck with your case. I'm sadly familier with how slowly things move.
