255 tire fits stock 05+ Tacoma

EDIT - they fit fine - Pics found later in the thread!

I must have accidentally deleted my build thread on the 05 access cab I had a few years back. Most of my notes etc were there.

Anyway - Has anyone successfully fit 255/85/16 on a bone stock 05+ tacoma?

I have a chance on a fantastic deal on them but would have no place to store them while a wait for a lift, if required. Sorry folks. OF course I did the search first, but you know how those go sometimes...

Thanks, but that is not exactly what I was after as the ICON suspension bits were used. Even set for 'no lift' I've read there is still around an inch over the factory tacoma ride height. Close, though, really close!

Not exactly the same truck but I ran 255/85/16 KM2's on my FJ with stock suspension until I could get a lift. Had to do some trimming and chop the body mount but they fit.

I did use ICONS coils in the front but the height is set to exactly the same ground to fender measurement as the stock springs. And I still have the stock rears.

255/85/16 will be tough to fit and I have never heard of one fitting a stock 05+.

If you are willing to trim and cut anything will fit, but I would invest in a cheap lift like 5100's and AAL just to be sure.

I like the idea of buying the tires you want first. It forces you to build the truck accordingly.

I did it with the old BFG mud terrains. Say good bye to your mud flaps. Aside from that they rub only in the places they rub when lifted. Hope that helps. I ran it for 5k miles before a lift.

If they fit a lifted truck then they will fit a stock truck (extended width long travel suspension, and drop bracket lifts are a different story). All you really change with replacement coilovers is the ride height of the truck. Some coilovers will give slightly more travel (usually droop) but the arc of the wheel remains essentially the same. Variances in manufacture/assembly/caster/camber is probably why some trucks rub more than others (plus, some people are much more adventurous off-road...leading to more opportunity to rub). Also keep in mind that the term 'fits' is relative. Some folks don't mind pounding pinch welds over or chopping body mounts or trimming fender liners, etc. So, they may consider that as a 'fit' when someone else may consider that a 'doesn't fit'. That being said, plenty of 05+ tacomas run that size tire. Results may vary. :D

**This all assumes you are running stock rims. Change rim width/offset and you throw more variables into the mix.**

Running stock wheels. Already said good bye to the mud flaps! I'm looking at a pretty great deal on a set of 5 new ST's the guy can't use. I'll look at them this week and report back.

Please do! Turn this thread into another good info source for those looking to squeeze on the 255's. Don't just give us the 'fits' or 'doesn't fit' deal...give us some detail. Let me learn from you before I do it myself! :sombrero: My truck is currently bone stock as well and I would love to put 255's on it when the factory tires wear out. I really like the Cooper ST's too.

The tires will fit the same lifted vs stock. Unless you install a body lift or change the factory bump stops (ie limit wheel travel)... the same size tire can fit lifted or stock with the same amount of trimming required.

Answered! 255/85/16 fit bone stock 05+ Tacoma 4X4 with no problems whatsoever.

Pulled the plug with fear and trepidation but have no problems. There is no rubbing. If you can call the limited amount of up and down travel in the front suspension 'articulation' there is no rubbing at full drop or the entire two inches of upward travel. Steering checked full lock in both directions.

Only issue I can foresee in leaving it like this that chains would have a hard time once they started to gather snow or mud. Thats it really. I love the look:

I've had a few PM's asking so I thought I'd address this here - I do intend to add an OME 2.5" - 3" lift. The clearance will be good for chains and the factory suspension is simply lacking in many areas. I'll also want the extra capacity for the bumper and sliders etc. Short of that, this is just fine and the 255 Discoverer ST's are fantastic tires.
