295/75/16 on 7" rim

Is anybody running 295/75/16 on 7" rims. I picked up a set of factory alloys for my truck with the intent of running 255/85/16. I see people running 285/75/16 on 7" rims all of the time, I have even seen 305/70/16 and 315/75/16 on 7's:Wow1: All of the 255's seem to be mud terrains and now I'm thinking a less agressive AT with more flotation might be the way to go.

After researching tires, it seems most 255/85/16 are 33.2 tall, 285/75/16 are about 32.7 and 295/75/16 are about 33.2

I thought about finding some 8" rims and running 315/75/16 but that might be a little too big.

I'm trying to get that extra bit of tire height to help with the gearing. the truck has 4.10's and even with the zf 5sp. in still seems to buzzy going down the freeway with 235/85/16. right now its turning about 2300-2400rpm at about 60 mph

Did you get a set of OBS Stroker Alcoas? Love those wheels.

As I'm sure you know, recommended max tire width for a 7" rim is 265. I run 265/75-16's (stock size BFG AT's) on my factory Chevy rims. They're just too small. I have considered 285's. Lots of people run 'em on 7" rims, although they bulge a bit too much for me. And yes I've seen bigger on 7" rims, but that's just asking for trouble in my opinion. I'm sure there will be plenty of people that disagree with that.

I too wish the tire manufacturers would do a little research (like these forums) and see the demand for an AT tread, E-rated tire in size 255/85-16. I'd buy them in a heartbeat. They would fill the wheelwells better and save on buying a new set of rims. I'd really like to step up to 19.5's to achieve what I'm looking for, but $$$...

I've got two IDI's right now. If you can get your highway RPM down to less than 2 grand, say around 17-1800, your mileage will go way up. Another way to go for you may be a Gear Vendor's unit. Pop over to Oilburners and do a little research on the subject.:sombrero: There are a couple of folks that have GV's, dropping highway RPM down to around 14-1500 RPM, and get around 20 MPG. That's pretty good.

My 6.9 gets pretty poor mileage in Boomer on the highway....typically around 13MPG. I have trouble keeping the revs under 2000 as it puts me around 45 MPH. The GV unit is really cool, but so expensive. Eventually I'll throw one under the rig but for now I'm also going with taller tires....295-75-16's to be exact. I wouldn't run these tires on a 7" rim....

Ouch! 45 MPH at 2000 RPM. Even used a GV unit is not cheap. If you watch, sometimes you can pick one up for around $500. Much cheaper than new! Have you been over to oilburners to snoop around. Much info for you there.

285/75r-16 are 33" tall and I believe 11" wide. They are huge to me after running 265/75. If you go to super swampers web site you can see what your rpms will be with any size tire. They have a rpm calculator. Good luck. Let us know.
