2nd Annual Family Overland Trip

By this time, we were running out of time, the 3 week mark was quickly approaching. I needed to be back to work, so we started the journey back home...rushing through Idaho (we want to go back to explore more), Nevada, and crashing the night at our family cabin in Truckee.
After relaxing at the cabin for the day, we took the kids to a local lake, one that I grew up going to with my dad.

And thats about it. We've adjusted back to our normal everyday lives. Kids start school soon, so we'll be squeezing in a few local trips before the summer is over. Until next time!

Right on. I have to say the the wife has her system down to keep the kids content during the long rides. It also helps that they fall asleep every time we hit dirt.

Awesome trip. How do you get your kids to travel so well? My kids are in "are we there yet mode" in about 2 hours if not sooner..

Great report man. Loved the pictures. A hearty amen to the tips at the front end of things...as a parent of four boys, five and under, I can say that they are spot on lifesavers for long seat times. Our trip plans always include intentional out of the way stops every two to three hours to give them an interesting place to stretch their legs. We also carry soundproof pillow cases to stick over their heads once they start asking the infamous "Are we there yet?" Works on birds, so we figured we'd give it a shot (just kidding if it's not obvious).

Prior to our trip last year, the longest trips we took we 4 hrs away. Our kids adapt quite well, as long as we take breaks and let them run around, and make it a big adventure for them. That said, being on a strict timeline would be counter productive to this.

4 boys five and under...impressive!

Try duct tape instead of the pillow cases...packs up nice and it's multipurpose...i'm kidding too, don't report me ;)

another great trip, thats awesome to see!

we were supposed to do yellowstone/tetons this past June but had some things to do in Calgary instead, so we spent a few days driving around enjoying banff/Jasper/lake louise area. would have loved to spend more time out there, but we only had 9 days and its a bit of a haul out there, especially for the kids. probably the toughest part was trying to use "strange" bathrooms in the middle of my daughters potty training time lol. my lil guy probably just sitting back laughing as he pees in his diaper!

When the kids are old enough to go for longer jokes well head back up that way. Such awesome scenery, so much to see.
