2nd Gen 4Runner Wheel options

I have 15" wheels and want to make a very cost effective jump to 16" I have read that backspacing is an issue, but am unclear on what will work - another form had a fellow with FJ steel wheels on his rig. Probably a cheap solution, but the fact that his posts resembled text messages has me suspect of the wisdom. Any thoughts on cheapie, preferably steel, wheels in 16"?

The backspacing on the 2nd gen is not as much of a problem. Your toy's BS should be about ~4.5", which was standard for many years. The BS that is more of a problem is the SA Toys which have a BS of ~3.5". I would measure or check the BS on the wheels you want but I think you should be able to find some 16" steelies from a Tacoma that should work.

Yes, you can run just about anything (lucky B@st@rd--haha)....Toyota 4x4 16" wheels, Nissan, Chevy, etc. You just need the 6-on-5.5" bolt circle. Also, to make it easiest, look for wheels you can use your lug nuts with. I think you're probably lug-centric (open ends of the lug nuts are cone-shaped). If you find some hub-centric wheels (open end of lug nuts have a flat surface), you'd just need to get some hub-centric nuts. 4.5" backspacing will keep you near the stock track-width. You can also fit 3.5" but the wheels will be spaced out a little further. If you want narrower 16's, grab some from a Tacoma, 4Runner, or Tundra. If you want some wider ones, find some from an FJ-80 Landcruiser.
