I am in the market for a new overland vehicle and I've narrowed it down to a 2nd gen 4 door LB or SB. The ones in my price range are unfortunately in the 180k-220k mile range and I have some reliability concerns. So, I wanted to hear from taco owners....should I run and find something else? Or will I be able to get some miles outa of a taco with already that many miles. I am not against spending a few $1k here and there to fix motor/trans. What are some things you guys have noticed needs addressing?

any help would be great. I have been driving around looking at them and am a little unsure of myself. Also...tried talkinghhhh to some toyota owners and they all promise ill get 500k out of it....

Like many things.
It just depends on how it was taken care.
What it really comes down to a truck with 200 k on it is a majority of the way throughts it life.
That is unless you want to dump dollars into it. Or who knows perhaps you get really lucky and it runs like a clock till 300 k
there are a few folks over on tacoma world who have gotten well north of 300 k out of the second gens. Yes you can do it. Is it common? who knows.

Ask you self is this going to be my DD? am I driving 30k a year in miles or will it take me three years to rack up that kind of miles ?
is it a back up rig?

the second gens are starting to go down just a hair in price now that the 2016 is out but you still pay the toyota tax dearly.
trust me on that one I own three toyotas.

My taco is a second gen 2012 that I bought new on the lot in july of that year 5 speed 2.7 4 cyl reg cab 4x4 simple as a hammer. It is about to roll 75 k.
I keep up with the work on it like a clock but also use it as a truck. No problems yet but you are talking about trucks that might have another 130,000 miles on top of that.
if it was me? and thats a a taco owner I would save more money take out a five grand loan and get something with less miles or buy something else.
They are awesome trucks but they is just a lot of miles up that some one could have been beating on and not taking care of a truck for.

best of luck
