I'm thinking about changing tires this spring to some Goodyear Duratechs in a load range D.

they look like a really good compromise between a mudterrain and an all terrain. I'm moving next summer to finish my bacholers degree and the University is located at 7600 ft. there winter lasts all year long with a lot of snow and ice. so i'm looking for something that will work a little better then my BFG muds.

is anyone running these or tried them out? i'd like to know how they work off-road since i spend my summers in the dirt.

thanks

A friend of mine has em on his Xterra, and they work pretty darn good. The sidewall tread is NICE and there pretty quiet on the road. They do good on the rocks, dirt, and mud.

I read good things about them on Jeepforum. But I think they're ugly as sin. Saw some on a work truck the other day.

from what I know about goodyears and my one experience with a set on my old volvo is they are good for one year. I put about 30k miles on my old nitto terra grapplers and didn't rotate at all and they wore pretty well.

they need to be quiet on the road!
the comply to a new law in europe:
there is a certain noise threshold they are not allowed to pass to be TÜV-compliant...

agressive tires cannot be sold anymore - after 1.oct. i think

I felt these tires yesterday and the tread was butter soft. Exceptionally so. Sounds good for the first 10k miles. Can anyone comment on longer-term usage?

They are really good tires but there goodyears so they are going to seperate but its not a big deal if you get them at discount tire/american tire just buy the certs.

I have them, my commute is 40 minutes with half of that crappy logging road and half highway. I am at 8000km now and they wear is noticeable but not out of the ordinary, they are not wearing faster than my Toyo MT's did. I have 5 so i rotate the spare in as well which should help them last a little longer.

So far I love these tires, no flats yet, quiet on the highway, great in snow and rain <they are winter tire rated> great in loose gravel, haven't had them in any real mud yet though,

I'm a cheap bastard (necessity) and $1k for a short-run tire won't fly in my book...

I kind of agree. I figure it I have to buy something that could go bad or get ruined I might as well buy something less expensive. Like a couple weeks ago I bought a rifle scope for $40, and the salesman was kind of a jerk about it trying to get me to buy the $650 scope. He said "buy cheap buy twice", so I countered him with "if I have to buy something twice I'd rather only spend 80 bucks than 1300" and that put him in his place. (now back to tires!)
