Hi all, we just got back from 2500 mile trek around the NS and New Brunswick. Started in NJ and made our way to Portland where we loaded our three trucks on the Cat Ferry to NS.

After that following the eastern sea board we drove to Port Hawkesbury for a MORE Labor Day Rally, some very nice folks up there.

Next the group set to tackle the second objective of the trek (reach the most northern part of NS). Taking the Cabot Trail we steamed for the north, I must say one of the most if not the most beautiful coastal road I've seen.

"Meat Cove! if you want to go north, there is also North Point but with the rain we had... we send a dozer up there to fix the wash outs but it didn't make it" locals say at the Co-Op that we stopped for supply's. After setting up in Meat Cove we push beyond the gravel road, heading for the light house some three miles of the thickest Tundra I had pleasure to off road. But it's not what stopped us, in the end it was a sheer descent of the mountain that we just spend two hours climbing and dusk!

Meat Cove is beautiful and at night it gets even better.
Here are some night shots from our cabin, we opted for it since it was only $50 a night and the wind picked up considerably by dinner time. Speaking of which, little fishery at the Cove serves home cooked meals despite appearances!!!! (clam chowder and paned fried herring to die for)

Next day we started towards the Atlantic, Cabot Trail makes kind of a short cut at this point but there is a street that veers back to the coast called "Ocean Loop" that is definitely worth taking.

Awesome shots!!! I actually seen your rig parked on the North shore (an area on the Cabot trail), and wondered if you were a member on this site. Unfortunatly, I didn't have time to stop and chat. I work in Northern Cape Breton. My detachment is in Ingonish, but my patrol area is from the North Shore, to Meat Cove( The Atlantic Coast). Really is beautiful country. Did you get a chance to travel the highland road? One of the most scenic places is up there. The highland road is thousands of kilometers of logging roads, and skidder paths in some of the most remote country in the province. Definitly worth a look. Thanks for coming, exploring, and sharing your photos!!!

Great report, thanks for sharing.

Honestly, i'm sad to see the cabins there at Meat Cove. I last visited in 93, just a flagpole and a few picnic benches. Does Ken still own the property?

Here are some photos I took with my iPhone. My camera sucks so I let Eric, Barbara and Jarek take the good shots. Me... I got like 3 "ok" shots.
