I believe, also, that the current engines are being manufactured in China? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I do remember there being a big hullabaloo over it some months back. I would guess that BMW would be strict enough in their oversight of metallurgical processes that quality would still be high..

The G650 engine is being manufactured by Kymco in Taiwan. Except for the engineering changes from the 05-08 F650 GS, if you saw the Kymco motor apart on the bench and the Rotax motor apart on another bench you couldn't tell the difference.

I looked for my Dakar for nearly a year before I found one. Places to look are the websites of the Chain Gang, BMWMOA, Internet BMW Riders and I'd send emails to the large BMW dealers and let them know your interested if they get one.
