33" spare tire in the stock location on a 1st gen?

Just wondering if a 33" on a 15" wheel will fit under the bed in the stock spare location? I have heard that it will and it will not. If not, just curious where you guys carry your spare? I have 31"s on my 97 4WD, but will be getting 33"s in the future. I haul dirt bikes in the bed, so a swing out tire carrier on the bumper won't work for me.

I have a 235/85-16 in my spare location. I cut off the feet on the mount at the back, but left the front so it can't move forward. There is enough room left (that size is 32") that I'm sure I could get a 33" in there.

Plenty have put a 33 in the stock location. It will require some modification though. Searches on here, tacomaworld, or TTORA will yield plenty of results.

Just trim the ends off of the brackets on the frame where they turn down to support the tire. Either that or flatten them out and a 33 should fit just fine.

I was considering the same thing BUT! is the little pulley system installed by factory really designed to hold a larger and heavier tire like a 33" m/t?

Cool, thanks for the info guys. That gives me hope. I was afraid that I would have to put the the spare tire in my Yakima basket on my roof.
