Aux. lights on the rack or bumper

I currently have my Hella lights on my front pre-runner bumper but, I've been debating if I should relocate the lights to the rack. I mounted them last night on the rack but, didn't snap a pic. Maybe tonight. In the pics, the concern I have is wtiht he hoop blocking any of the light pattern. In use, I can't tell as there's no shadowing that I can notice. Having it higher may provide a better light distribution but, having it higher makes it more prone to hitting low hanging branches on the trail. Opinion? Here's a pic with them on the bumper.

hmm on my old jeep I used to run driving lights on the roof, and fogs on my bumpers. seemed to work for me, but you do run the risk of smashing a light on a brach or somthing. and the good lights arent too cheap.

That's the idea, to run the driving lights up top and a pair of fogs at the bumper.

Another thing I'm considering is lowering my truck 1". Not to much of a difference but, it's something.

you could look into limb rasiers, or a light gaurd or what ever they call them. like the prerunner/baja trucks have

not wanting to rain on the parade but check your local laws regarding light height. in wv they can be no higher than the headlights. just a thought.

on topic though, i like them on the bumper. i would think they would be lees likely to get damaged.

those look huge up there! id put them on the bumper, maybe something smaller on the roof.

about the light height, i believe they just need to be covered. in WA its above 42" needs to have a cover on it on the street

They look better on the bumper IMO.I have had them on the roof and i found it would light up dust, rain or snow far better then the trail itself.Thats why mine are mounted on my front bumper in the hoop also.

Problem with lights up top is it makes your hood look really bright, and ruins your eyes ability to adjust to the dark.... spoils your night vision. Some guys have painted their hoods black to reduce the glare, and they claim it works well for them. If you do put them up there, limb risers are a good idea. If you can mount them close to the roof of the truck, and not so high up in the air, it may combat some of these problems! Just food for thought:coffee:

Mean lookin truck BTW!

They definitely project further up top, but another thing to consider is whether or not they must be covered while on the road.

In NH, they do not have to be covered while on-road as long as they are not mounted higher than the headlights, which is kind of nice.

Mine are generally covered anyway, but if I do use them, I don't have to cover them up as soon as I'm back on the road, just turn them off.

I believe the rules apply in our area as well. I've had 4 lights mounted on the bumper with no covers. Never had an issue. However, I've heard of other friends who received tickets for having them uncovered and they were mounted above the headlights.
