when I´ll find out if it´s possible to run a LR 130 Defender below 9L/100km....:(

What kind of mileage are you getting presently with the Tdci ? I was getting 22-24 mpg with lackluster peformance with 285.75 Km2's. I tweaked the injection pump and the performance gains dropped me to the mid to high teens. I put 235.85'2 on for summer and am now getting 22-24 again which is around 9L/100km

That´s pretty good, though 22-24mpg is more like 9.8-10.7L/km.

With the new TD4 (Puma) I never got below 21mpg (11L/100km).
With the reprogrammed/remapped ECU by ALLISPORT, the largest available intercooler and the 35" wheels (315/75R16) I am now averaging 18.5 -20.5mpg (daily driving, Defender style, on highways max 65mph(100km/h).
More sportive driving (80mph+/120km/h) and offroading gets me down to 15-16mpg (15L/100km).

So long,

Robert

Thats awesome. There's no comparison between the Td4 and the 300 tdi. The 6 speed getrag gearbox makes the brand new r380 in my truck feel like something from a John Deere. FWIW my mileage always falls like a rock when I push road speed over 65. I had a friends stay with me all last week with a Puma 110 and I'd get out of that and into my tdi 30 and they are light years apart.

The gears are as new and except for some minor changes to the suspension (preparations for Stage 2) the portals are just checked, cleaned and reinstalled by Wolfgang and Daniel Tibus. :wings:

Tomorrow its winch day and I will have a few more images of the cars (my 130 and the Tibus-Rallye Defender).

FYI, my TD5 Defender 130 CC (2004) gets 12L/100km, unladen, driving "Defender style" (max 100km/h). I think this is typical. Consumption doesn't go up much if I drive faster, but that's because it doesn't go much faster! 14L/100km is about the worst I have measured.

With my TD5 110, I had an ECU re-map done and an intercooler upgrade, which made it possible to get better consumption or much better performance, but certainly not both!

Interesting discussion. I was wondering how much real world increase in milage I'd get if I did a diesel swap. I hear guys talking about 30-40 mpg from their trucks (might be Discos), but is that real? I usually get around 15-20 L/100km from my V8 auto Disco. I'm hoping to pick up a bit of economy with the manual transmission swap. I just wonder how much better a 300tdi or TD5 would do, really. Especially when considering pulling a large trailer.

Hi Mike,

I have tons of drawings and sketches, that´s why I finally had to start doing things.

The cage for the cab will be full external but I still have 2 quotes that I am waiting for before I decide who´s going to build it.

The rear, utility/tray rack, will be build next week and together with the explo-safe fuel cell will be ready by mid-August.
I will post pictures as the work commences, promised :)

A quick rear side view....
