Can anyone help identify the two items I have circled in the picture below?

The first item (circled in red) looks like it is supposed to rest on a cross member, the only problem is there isn't one at that location. What is that for? Is it OK to remove it?

The second item, that black box looking thing (circled in blue) , I don't have that on my transfer case, what is it for?

Thanks

Note- that is not my actual transfer case, just a picture I found on the net

The item in red is a counter weight, I think. It helps reduce vibration.

The item in blue is the electronic actuator for the transfer case, you don't have one because yours is lever actuated.

On mine, the red circled item is rubber, so not much weight. It makes a great vibration stopper for my bud build skid plate though...

Blue circle is as answered above.

I prefer to call the thing circled in magenta a rock anchor. I've bent or ripped off like three of them.

One is the actuator and another is sort of protection. It's not a full skid, but it designed to take the impact in case you hit something.

I have a budbuilt skidplate so I was wondering if i could remove the counterbalance thing, I guess I will leave it on for now.

Thanks

Mine fits against the bud built skid, see if yours makes contact, the vibrations will be absorbed better if it does like mine.

From what I can tell the red item is what toyota calls a tranfer dynamic damper. Not sure exactly what it is but it costs $342.47:Wow1:

It will hit on some Budbuilt applications (my 04' Tacoma for example), it is possible to remove the two bolts and move the damper up, only using the bottom hole if that makes sense. I've had mine moved up like this for a year or so now with zero problems.

It is not a skid and has nothing to do with a skid, it is designed to capture drive train vibrations so you don't feel them in the cab.
