3rd Gen Ram build or…

Hello everyone,
I have been creeping here for a while dreaming of a build for years. My backstory is that I’ve been in the military for 10 years and get out in May. I’ve saved a solid amount of money in that time and would like to put it to use. What I really want to do is take a minimum of 1 year hiatus and just explore and be free and search for the best places to ride a dirt bike. I would like to accomplish this in a self built truck camper but there’s so many options I always go back and forth, I could use some advice picking between:

building the entire habitat off the chassis or getting a utility bed/slide in combo. I’ve seen both and really like both options

Building it seems to be the easiest way to end up with exactly what I envision, buying seems to be more expensive but time efficient.

With my current truck, an 06 Ram 3500 QCSB, I sometimes worry about being over mgwr, which is why if I built it I would do it as light as possible. I also have never really seen a buyable camper that I liked the layout/features enough. But, I also fear this would take me a lot longer to build than anticipated and I would lose a good chunk of summer travel time

Attached is my sketch of what I think is my dream rig

I’m a firm believer that all DIY projects always cost twice as much and take twice longer than expected.
I’d say best would be to buy a used camper. Search locally and nationally and I’d bet you’d find a good deal. Since you’ll be on the road, you could pick it up wherever.

Thanks for your service by the way ?
