We wanted to take a midsummer break so several weeks after July Fourth weekend, we decided to explore parts of the North Cascades. We are grateful to have this area just a short drive away. We figured since it was rainy and most people got the camping bug out of their systems during the Fourth, we would see fewer crowds. Well, yes and no. On the popular hiking trail access roads we did find a few more people but the further we ventured on more primitive DNR or USFS roads, the fewer people we saw. We didn’t stay at any of the campgrounds but chose to Boondock off side roads. We don’t enjoy listening to parties and generators. We would prefer the owls or coyotes.
