4" HID vs PIAA 5192

Any thoughts/opinions? I've read up a bunch on the 4" and 6" HID lights and they seem to get awesome reviews. I was going to order some, but partsamerica.com sucks - so I asked the owner of 4wdlfactory.com if he stocks any, and he doesn't. He suggested some PIAA 5192's since they're cheaper for a pair ($187 including a wiring harness) and alos said "They actually are not an HID but have a really nice similar light".

I was wondering if anyone has experience with the PIAA 5192's that could back up the light pattern to be similar to the cheap HIDs.

This is what I could find on the 5192's:

How can they have a "nice similar light" if they are not HID? Because they have a crap blue coated bulb? You're not wanting blue light. You want *bright* light, and the claim that 55W=110W because they put a blue coating on the bulb is false advertising.

Oops, I'm letting my anti-PIAA side show again. ;)

I completely agree. If I purchased those lights I'd pull out those crap bulbs and sell them to some ricer. I don't think the PIAA's are worth that much, but apparently Amazon thinks they're worth more than the price offered to me.

Have you looked at the Hella FF500 for like $70-90? If you're wanting smaller lamps, these ones are decent... if relatively cheaply made. They're not the same as the old 500's. The FF's look modern.

My friend bought some of the HId lights from Checker for 99.00 each and those lights are super bright, they do not compere to the PIAAS!

partsamerica

Do you have links where I can get them online? Everywhere else I've looked wants roughly $20 more per light.

Keep in mind even at $20 over, you're still saving about $400 over Hella HID. :ylsmoke:

Well as far as I know that's the place to buy them and considering they're less than $100 a pop, you can't loose.

Not with the feedback from guys racing their buggies in the desert with these and they hold up to that torture.

If you can't deal with partsamerica then just pony up some more for something similar in HID's.

Hella FF500's are good but they aren't HID's.

Yeah you can. I was out in Burlington for the weekend and I went to the advance auto parts, they don't stock them. So I went to the other one 15 miles away, and they don't stock them either. I asked the guy at the counter about them, and it's not something they or any other store in new england would stock; only a factory direct order - which would take weeks to fulfill. And then I'd have to drive two hours out there again to pick them up.

I think I'll stick with my KC Daylighters

That's no good. Sorry to hear.

Other option would be to have someone close to one of the shops that stock them plentiful and have then ship a set to you. :ylsmoke:
