4 or 8 ply snow tires

looking at some snow tires for my taco. Bridgestone Blizzaks are 4 ply and General Altimax are 8 ply. The tires are rated at 2800 and 3100 lbs each. Do you think the 4 ply will be enough?

I will be towing 2k lbs a lot and have a snugtop topper and a 2010 taco

4 ply is stock and will be fine unless your in rocks and are running on the sidewall alot. also 4 ply will probably get a bit better mpg due to wieght unless they are more aggressive.

I reckon if you are towing a couple thousand a lot I would go 8ply. 4Ply are fine for your chevy sprint...

Without seeing them, I'd expect the 4 ply would probably be "softer" or have more flex/deflection under weight, which is a desirable attribute in a tire that needs all of the grip it can get. As long as your rear GAWR (axle weight rating) is less than 5600lb the lighter tires are within spec for the vehicle.

For summer tires I'd probably pick the 8 ply for durability, but for winter use I'd suggest the 4 ply and de-rate your driving speed/towing aggressiveness as needed.
