4000 mile Utah adventure in Jeep LJ

Just got back from a two week trip that started in my hometown of Monterey, California and ended in Moab, Utah. We drove my 2005 Jeep Wrangler unlimited, filled to rim with camping gear, food, beer and lots of camera equipment. Had a great time and it was the farthest I have drove my jeep to date. Check out the short film below and let me know what you think!

I think you captured the beauty of the area in a magnificent manner. The music is amazing and the images are well placed. Well done!

Now I need to get back out there.

mph and SmoothLC said it well. Beautiful film, beautiful locations.

That being said I would hope you are considering the experience of other backcountry users who travel to these places. I feel seeing and hearing a buzzy little aircraft flying around to be a very intrusive and unwelcome sight and sound in places like this. Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, I don't know. But I doubt it.

Hi Guys, thank you for the comments. I was a backcountry wilderness ranger for 15 years for the forest service and have a very unique view when it comes to respect not only for our environment but for the publics experience also. In Utah we went to great lengths to drive to remote locations and scouting areas before we did any filming, if there was anyone around at all then the birds were put away and we would leave the area. Unfortunately this is not the case with most pilots and one of the reasons for all of the regulations that are coming into effect, some this month in California because of other pilots lack of responsibility.

Hope other pilots and four wheelers can learn to be polite and courteous to all users whether they are hiking, cycling, OHV, horseback we all have to work together to keep our public land open.

Beautiful area and your video really captures it .... I however would prefer a little less drone and a bit more trail worked in

Great attitude and perspective. :iagree: A little common sense and courtesy really do go a long way when sharing the land with others, no matter the activity. I wish everyone considered this.

The original plan was to have more Jeep footage,we were going to run Hells Revenge, Poison Spyder, Cliffhanger and one other random trail in Moab. Unfortunately as fate would have it, the week before this trip I was on the Rubicon with some friends and tweaked one of my front axle control arm mounts. I thought it would survive the Utah trip but on our first day out on Hells Revenge I twisted it almost completely off. We were able to use a shops welder to get it road worthy but having to drive 1500 miles back to California I did not want to take any chances, was super bummed as the front control arm mounts are the only stock mounts on my rig and they would keep us from running any more hardcore trails.

outback97 its really all about education, I always talk to others while out on the trail and especially if I see someone doing something stupid. The OHV community in general is a great group of people and always willing to help others in need, when we were filming with the birds one time a group of hikers came out of nowhere and we immediately stopped filming, one of the older gentlemen in the group came up to me as I was landing and I could tell that him and his wife were not happy with the noise. I walked over to them and apologized and then showed them the footage I had just shot on my iPad and explained the short film I was making about Utah and my perspective on land management and my background. They were shocked to say the least, its funny they probably though we were just racing around with our little helicopters making noise and trying to ruin others wilderness experience. In the end I hope they were a little less appalled with RC aircraft and off roaders :)

Rusty762, you seem to be a responsable person. Years ago, we had to restrain my mother so she wouldn't throw rocks at the kids riding by on dirt bikes in the campground.

It is all about how you were raised, yesterday it was raining like crazy here in Monterey and I saw an old man who was walking home and dressed in a T shirt and sandals. Clearly got caught unexpected, I gave him my umbrella as I was sitting in the comfort of my living room. He was shocked but said thank you, I don't understand people these days that think its cool or funny to act like a jack *** towards others, especially if were in the outdoors.

Love the video. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Willman!
