404.1

Hello, iam new to the forum, my name is Clinton

Two weeks ago i purchased a unimog 404.1 (ex-swiss troop carrier). I got it home and cleaned up the carb, all of the jets were plugged up. It ran like a top and then i had to clean the carb again.

The original sedimant bowl fuel filter has been replaced with a in-line filter.

When it gets warmed up, it starts to flood itsself again and i tear into the carb and clean it.

Can any other 404 ownners help me out?

Thank you
Clinton

I had a similar problem with mine early on, I sent the carb to Mike Smith at UNIPASER to have it rebuilt. It turned out to have a small crack in the bowl that led to flooding. Possibly from a backfire at some point in time or maybe some water got ino it that froze ad cracked the bowl.

I ended up getting a new one and truck has running nicely ever since. It is my daily driver.

Hello and welcome to the forum!
I am running an inline fuel filter from a bed mounted tank with good results. Our zenith carbs are usually quite tolerant of odd settings.. Next time you tear it down, make sure you thoroughly inspect all the components for damage and that shellac like residue from old fuel. If you end up needing carb parts or gaskets, Expedition Imports keeps just about everything for a '404 in stock. Also, if you haven't been there yet, Rocky Mountain Moggers is a wealth of information.
Best of luck and happy mogging,
CJ

Thanks for the info guys, i ordered a carb rebuild kit from expedition imports last week, i havent had time to rebuild the carb yet.

I never even thought to look at the bowl for cracks, i will look close next time i have the carb off.

Thanks again for the tips
