Default 1978 Apache with Wrangler 4x4

Missed an opportunity to buy this on ebay several years back.
Got outbid by a guy I later found out was prepared to go to $8000.
My limit was 4k at the time, ended up with a nice 4x4 85 E350 with 46000.

Anyway, I really wanted this thing and could not find much info on it.
Has anyone run into one? Would be cool if there were a few more out there in good shape.

1978 Apache Chief with the "Wrangler" 4x4 option.
Tried to find more info on it but not much luck.
Was hoping a couple more existed in decent shape.

Guy bought it March 02 with 39k on it from an old guy that kept it garaged since 1978 with little use.
He then put 31k on it from 3/02 - 12/02 driving from Virginia to alaska, down to southern cal, a few side tracks in the middle, then back to virginia.

A few pics of the beast, map was his 31000 mile trip in it.

Looks like a fun machine, a bit before its time.

That would have been a fun rig to run around but I don't recall much info on the Apache 4x4 conversion. Give this thread a day or two, I bet Chip Haven will know some background info.

What was Dodge's big block in the 70's? A 360? Bet the MPG was tough to swallow.

I wouldn't sweat losing out on it. Dually 4WD's aren't all that great anyway.
